Goblins had been treathening the farming cottages on the outskirts of the forest surrounding Horve. Usually, the goblin-infestation in the valley posed no particular problem for its denizens - No more than any other kind of rodent might. They were a fact of life, and had to be dealt with accordingly. But these raids were something different. More organized and frequent, they had proven more than a nuissance and had to be dealt with accordingly.

Sir Boris, champion of the count, confers with one of his men-at-arms about the best course of action.

Leading an expedition into the woods, the city guard come across a den of goblins. A more sinister pressence reveals itself

A foul anti-paladin, worshipper of dark gods, commands the goblin rabble.

However - the rabble is quickly broken, as the steel of men and dwarves take their toll. In the melee, Boris confronts the anti-paladin.

Another Mirliton miniature. The unit is comming along nicely. I have had this one sitting around half painted for absolute ages, and finally decided to start over on it. Originally meant to be a chaos warrior, he will now serve as a champion in my men-at-arms unit.

I see you cut the axehead from "the bold baron" to a more proportional size. I did the same  lol.
Great use of some classic-trough-the-ages miniatures, they come together nicely.

I have been eyeing the sale, debating wether I can afford it with myself. I am sorta broke this month, but might spring for it anyways. :P

Edit: I just bought it. Don't say I am not one to blindly jump into a promotional offer. Besides, I need to read a propper set of rules after laughing/crying at the latest offering from GW.

Thanks for your business! And I feel EXACTLY the same way about AoS. I'll be blogging about it soon. They've definitely jumped the shark on this one.

I promise you that BoB/EH will give you just enough crunch to satisfy your appetite for something more filling!

Im reading through the core rules (slooowly - you definitely get a lot of pages for the money :P Good thing since I've been looking for something to read), and I really like the Edge and Break mechanic. I'm not sure when I'd actually have a chance to get a game in, but it's definitely an interesting set of rules.

Oh yeah. I think he actually came like that? He must have been miscast. The original axe is a bit silly  :D But a nice miniature. I really like his face - He's angry, balding and, in my case, redheaded. Very much looking forward to putting him into a game at some point.
Now I need to find a fobbish noble to take the role of the Count of Oakenshire.

Hi,

Excellent stuff! The painted helmets are a great touch.

I think people actually did that during the War of the Roses? No matter: I find it ties the models together in a great way, and also adds a dash of colour and interest to the minis. They look very dull when painted in full metal, in my opinion. So I had an opportunity to paint something bright red, and I just grabbed it  :D

GREAT STUFF once more! The continuing adventure is a joy to follow.

Thanks. Always apreciate your kind words :)

Re: Affun's lead-pile - 6/7-15: Cleric and Foot Knight

I've managed to finish up the last of my Foot Knights, as well as a cleric:

Which marks the completion of the first step of my city guard warband. I've done a write-up with a couple of other pictures about the unit over on my blog ( Linky ) which I hope you guys will enjoy.

The Cleric is a Privateer Press Iron Kingdoms 'Cleric of Morrow'. Very nice, even though the pauldrons are a little bit oversized.
As for the Foot Knight, I spend a bit longer panting his armour, since the model is one of my favourites of the bunch. I added some shading using PP's 'Cryx Bane Base' mixed in with a mid-tone metallic, which gives the shaded parts of the armour a subtle green-grey tone. Besides from that, instead of drybrushing the layers after the wash, I highlighted them in the regular old fashioned way, which gives the model a much sharper finish that I enjoy quite a lot.

So, thats it for now!

A quick update:

I got another one of my alternative-armies dwarves done. A joy to paint, and quick too. I am really pleased with how the cape came out.
Now I hope to be able to finish 3 dwarves more today or tomorrow, as that'll be the second unit done for my "army".

Cheers!

Well, thats the dwarves done. For now. :)

The unit is 5 dwarves from Alternative Armies, and a single old citadel/marauder (can't remember which) which I thought looked cool, if a little out of place with his horned helmet.

I really dig the masks some of these guys wear. Such a cool design.

Here's a group-shot of them all:

Thanks. Dwarves are, along with Goblins and Orcs, some of the miniatures I enjoy painting the most, but for some reason rarely actually paint. When I am done with my current batch of Billmen (over in the >>Medieval Adventures<< section) I'll be sure to paint up some more of the stunty fellows.

***

Meanwhile, I've finished another miniature; this time a crusader knight from Black Tree Designs. He doesn't quite fit in, historically, with the other foot-knights I've been painting (wearing chainmail, as opposed to the very late-medieval Full-plate of my regular knights), so he'll propably have to represent a less well equipped man at arms or city guard infantry.

Of course, the primary reason I painted him (apart from it being a dang cool model) was to use him for my Frostgrave Warband, with the added benefit of him being able to be used for Saga as well. When I get him a couple more friends.

Over on my >>blog<<, I've written a small tutorial on how I paint my bases that I hope you will enjoy checking out.

Thanks for reading!

To take a break from painting Frostgrave (I find those minis extremely tedious to paint, for some reason) I dived back into some of my 25mm fantasy stuff. Namely, I painted up a Templar and a Standard Bearer:

One of the Foundry Ex-Citadel ones. Great mini. Definitely have a mind to aquire some more of that range (In particular - The norse/norman  :P )

And a group shot:

Ooh, I like that templar! good job on that one.

I did take a look at my frostgrave stuff as well and beautifull models, but I forsee that I won't enjoy most of them due to to much details that can be painted.
Why aim for gold if you can get lead?
