...as opposed to writing fiction and creating fantasy football style army lists?

Bit controversial to ask this, I know... It's just that I keep seeing enticing looking thread titles which make me go 'Oooh, that looks interesting'.

But when I click on the thread, expecting to see lovely pictures of figures or games, most of the time, all I see is fluff and / or lists...  :?

Which is not to say that writing fluff and tinkering with army lists is not a perfectly satisfying and valid pastime... It's just that it seems there's rather a lot of this in relation to the number of people actually showing figures and games.

Or maybe that's just my impression.

So I'm curious. Does IHMN particularly appeal to the intellectual more than the practical wargamer?

Do most of these lists and pieces of fan fiction result in something actually happening on the tabletop or a figure collection? Or are they solely theoretical exercises?

Just wondering...  :)

Interesting question. I've been painting figures, but have now given it a rest to concentrate on getting the rest of the leadpile down. It certainly does appeal to me in terms of writing companies and fluff and so on, but with the intention of playing a game, eventually. My main problem is a lack of time/space/opponents with time/space, so actual games, no, painting and thinking, yes.

As to whether I do ever end up actually playing, well, it depends on whether the figures I have got done end up being sold if/when my interest wanes for a period and I want the money to start something else, or if I can get a game or two in before that happens and so fire up my enthusiasm.

I actually have two companies, plus a variety of useful chaps, ready to go. No appropriate terrain though, that's another bit which gets in the way of playing...

A very good question Capt. Blood  :D

We have been seeing lots of game reports on people's blogs and on the various Facebook IHMN groups, there are numerous AAR's on the IHMN blog (http://inhermajestysname.wordpress.com/category/heroic-engagements/), and of course reports from shows where it has proved a popular participation game because it is so easy to learn.

On here Shadowking, amongst quite a few others, has posted a number of AAR's, often with better painted figures and terrain than either Charles or I can muster.

The fact that we have made it 'open source' and encouraged people to design their own companies has appealed to many creative gamers, which we think is a positive thing. However, the Rules and the Supplement, along with the Blog, feature a lot of companies in order to save people time if they don't wish to design their own.

We have found that people both use it as a pick up game, because it can be quite short, and also as a narrative campaign game. So we think it has a quite wide appeal

Captain Blood, I am currently in the list making phase because I do not have time right now for a lot of painting. This is also my first true steps into VSF so I don't have a ton of appropriate figures so I am in order what I like mod and learn the rules with armymen from the dollar store. I will start painting and assembling actual figures for my lists over my Christmas holidays. I also need to make some appropriate terrain and some game boards. I am sure no one wants to see a game of British green armymen vs Tan French armymen on a field full of cereal boxes and pasta strainers as buildings and hills. I am also in an area where I live everyone plays warhammer or Warmachine so not a lot of people interested smaller games like IHMN yet so most of my games are theoretical.

I have two companies completed (Scotland Yard and Porterhouse College Adventuring Company). The schoolboys got their first game in at BLAM and put up a creditable performance (winning draw).

I also have an almost finished US Marine company (2 figures required to complete it) and am in the process of painting a werewolf themed company (having finally decided on the background to the company and thus what its human followers will look like).

After I finish the werewolves I will be working on a company for Knights of St John.

Plenty of plans to for more companies to incorporate existing figures in my collection and to use up stuff in my lead mountain; including Brick Lane Commune, Industrialists and Cabinet Noir.

... and YES, these will appear on this forum in my IHMN thread.

I have various miniatures that will crossover from empire of the dead. Various criminals, Gentlemen Clubs, Vampries, Werewolves and priests. I have the IHMN and the expansion rules as just not built any lists with it yet. :D

I have all the EoTD KS stuff to work though so expect a scotland yard themed force as well as reinforcements for those mentioned above.

Next week we will do a first game in Hamburg. I play the chinese warband and Alex will play Ra or Scotland yard. A new Warband design will follow, but I will in a starting step try the rules. I think bullshot is one of the progressive guys with new ideas (Hope to find the right words). When I heard about his Boyband I was really fascinated, but the werewolfs a gigantic. ANd the stuff of Mason is briliant. Saw it at the BLAM. Simply great! Maybe we guys from Hamburg should work on german warbands...

What did Mason have at BLAM? I must have missed those.

I didnt have any IHMN bands at BLAM, but I guess the stuff I did have could be quite easily mistaken for it, only a few years apart in the settings.

.......And I think the good Captain was referring to those that post text heavy topics regarding ideas for IHMN.

My take on his question is: Are you all intending to actually paint, make or do something visual with your IHMN ideas as there is a lot of talk and no 'eye candy' flying around here at the moment.

NO OFFENSE INTENDED TO ANYONE, SO PLEASE DONT TAKE ANY.

Sorry, my mistake. Mason made this EotD-Table with the London-Buildings, I think. Sorry.

Actually, I think it was my fault for causing the confusion in the first place:

I ran a Strange Aeons game and borrowed some of Thunderchicken's lovely Victorian buildings for it.
He then used them in his EotD game the following day.

I do have some IHMN Companies, I just have not posted anything here for a while....
