For a real take on old school....
« on: December 10, 2013, 09:24:17 AM »
I just reposted the old, old Jack Scruby fantasy figures off my blog onto the Lost Minis WIKI as I realised there wasn't a category for it. Released around 1975......

Enjoy!

I'd say it's a mounted wizard, possibly a not-Gandalf.

Now that does bring back memories. While Jack's stuff never would be considered state of the art, they had a certain charm about them, &, without Scruby minis & rules, it is highly unlikely that war gaming would have caught on in the USA to the extent it has.
I'm really curious how the Old Wizard will paint up, Have FUN with him!

I purchased some of these figures a few years ago after they were re-released by Historifigs. I have some of the trolls, ents, and goblins. A simpler style than what we are used to today, but not without merit. The trolls look particularly retro and pulpy, albeit a bit stiff and "toy soldier" like in their posing. Fun to paint up none the less.

At first glance I thought it was an ECW cavalryman with a pistol!

It's been a long day.

Is that a rifle in his hand?! That would make LotR a far better series in my unhumble opion.
Great find, Dave! Still not forgiving you for that last second snipe on ebay, but still ;)

That would give the chance for the Duke as Rooster Gandalf - instead of "you shall not pass" it would be "fill your hands you son of a bitch"

Huge thanks for taking the time to show these off nicely. Definitely have never seen them before, and I'm fascinated by anything fantasy from this period.

I don't think the mounted wizard is a good example to show the best in the range. Some like the orcs have a nicely animated quality and the elf has some groovy seventies proportions with its large feet and spindly legs. Very elf-like, as opposed to the offerings by Minifigs and Heritage, which are incredibly stocky.

The weedy elf reminds me of Crow from Hawk the Slayer.

"I tire... of... fighting... and killing".

Top film.  8)
