Jousting web site launch by CrossedLances
« on: January 16, 2014, 07:07:18 AM »
Check out our brand new web site; If there not teething problems I will be very impressed.

http://crossedlances.com/

We won at Derby the best participation game 2013, with over 200 people each day playing, our throats were dry and croaky by the end of the day.

I hope all those of you who have supported us now become more involved and buy the first set of rules which concentrates on the Joust and mounted melee, with these rules we have used 6mm, 10-12mm, 20mm, 25-28mm and one of the test players used his 40mm figures, no issues arose.

We have, from the traders alone who joined and played, promises to buy over 800 sets. A French guy wants 1000 of both sets, with 4 Knights and 3 tilts in a special box set.

The second set due out in Feb deals with the foot melee, the archery competition and the crowd events, riots, drunks, thieves, witches etc.

Hope you come and join us at Vapnartak for a game - http://www.yorkwargames.org/Vapnartak.htma

Is the Feb release a second edition or a part 2?
Cheers,

 lol

Funnily enough the tilt and tents etc were planned for Robin Hood and we have discussed on numerous occassions rules for jousttng. So these might just be the ticket :)

Count me in then Nick. I'll have to paint up a knight in the family coat of arms. Although knowing my family history he'll be the one mucking out...  ::)

@crossedlances. Your hex templates in the 'free downloads' section are listed as £4.

Might be nice to have a bit of a description of how the rules/mechanics work. At the moment I'm none the wiser about why I should shell out £20 for them. Is the rulebook hardback? Soft back perfect bound? Does it come with separate cards?

Any chance of releasing the helmet sprues separately as say a pack of ten?

There's a couple of other points but I'll come back to them.  :D

Can you tell us what you get in the rules for £20?  Paperback/hardback, number of pages? Colour or black and white printing, etc....

And another question regards the second set due in Feb.

Is it just an expansion book or is it a reprint of the orignial rules with the additions?

So do I wait until Feb and buy one complete book or buy the orginals now and the add ons next month? (hope that makes sense!)

Also...

What dice do you need?

What basing conventions are used? Hexes are mentioned, but not for which combat rules (if at all).

The description for the rules says that it contains everything needed to get started, does that include figures? A tilt?

Is there an experience system for knights to improve at jousting/melee?

If the ruleset is simple to learn, how simple? What gives it the unique selling point. If there's only two pages of rules what justifies its price tag?

I'd also suggest becoming an active member of this forum. There's a lot of gamers from around the world use this place as inspiration. Quite a few projects start off the back of something they've seen on here. Many rules become very popular due to the authors accessability on LAF. IHMN is a very good example of this.  :D

It looks to potentially be an interesting set of rules. I look forward to your replies.

I can only agree with everybody else, both here & on TMP, that there is no info about the rules or their mechanics. When I asked for details the reply I received was "First advert in Wargames Illustrated this month, second in Feb, third in March". Not exactly informative. Quite interested in these rules but I'm not about to shell out £20 for what could turn out to be a 4pg B&W PDF of nothingness. Come on chaps, spill the beans. You have potential customers here.
...and what fresh new hell is this?

The shop doesn't yet work properly, anway; already sent an email on that issue. Saved me from an impulse buy, fortunately. ::)
Now, on second thought, I would support the call for a bit more information on the actual rules beforehand. Show awards and number of copies ordered by traders are all nice and fine. But what's in the box for us humble gamers who've never heard of it? That is, apart from some "blurb" on another thread here and the odd picture of the game at Derby. On the latter the game looked fairly busy with lots of chits and markers and dice – all required for the game or even included in the set?

PS: If uploading pictures is still a problem you've probably missed the link given by Captain Blood on the other thread?

Hi guys, we have been inundated with requests so I beg some patience.

1. The rules set is full colour of 44 pages, 2 spare for notes etc, the cards can be cut out or copied from the rules, these cover the joust, the mounted melee only .
2. You can use existing figures or buy a Lord specific from us or Curtey's miniatures, again patience our web site is 24hrs old.
3. The second set of rules are covering the foot melee, the archery and the crowd events run by DM much more intense so to call them an expansion set is about right.
4. Dice d6's one d12 for the archery.
5. Briefly lets say 8 people, using 4 tilts, each  knights draw 3 cards from their skill set of 30 and one Lord card from his set of 15, this is for how he performs on the day, they roll the dice to move when they attain the move roll becomes the combat roll, a table tells you where you have hit and what points you have scored. The skill cards are played and the winner scores additional points.
6. With the points system it can be made into a campaign by yourselves.
7. We are hoping with the Blogg to have several clubs running their own tourne's and post the results there.
8. Is it simple we had kids of 5 play, grannies of 70, the organisers, the traders and the public.
9. We are at Vanartak, Allumwell and Salute to show the game off and generate interest.
10. helmets accessories tents are all available, the tents for advanced and squires influence the DM side of the game.

Imagine you have taken part in the joust and won, you now enter as the mounted melee, but you get knocked out early, instead of sitting around like a lemon waiting for the game to end, you can now control your Squires actions, until that melee is won by one knight. Too much to relate on here, but imagine a castle on the table, the village and fair, the tilts and stands, the knights doing combat, the squires doing tasks like quelling a riot or watching a witch burn (no mother in law jokes just yet please), earning extra points playing with the Squires, whilst you sip a glass in your knights tent nursing your injuries.
Then comes the  foot melee and if you want an archery competition, again DM events will occur as knights are knocked out, we usually only take 4 hours to play a full Tourne'.

Hei Martin,

just to see it clear.
The second rulebook, will it be "just" an add-on for the first or could it be used by it self, without needing the first.
Let's say, if I'm not into jousting but would like to have a kind of duel game ;)

Yes that's right, you need the second book only for the foot melee and archery, it will though reference the first book for some items managing the joust and mounted melee as a DM.

Ok, thanks.
It's nice that it can be used as stand-alone game as well, and not just as an add-on  :)
