I couldn't help myself so I haven't left it alone for a couple of days!

I've now added the bulk of the sand, to the tower dungeons, medieval courtyard, and tracks.

I've also bridged the ditch at the Sally Port (which leads into a tunnel so narrow a sword couldn't be swung in it).

It will NOW be left alone for a bit, then I'll rub down the filler and seal it with PVA, then get on with the gap filling putty work.

So the halfway point calls for a hefty dump of images as this is the worst it will look, from now on the appearance will start to improve  :D

Both variants side by side: late Medieval for Wars of the Roses and then the later modern-day interpretation with Tudor infill/enhancement, buttress repair to ECW slighting, and visitor car park.

From this halfway point, there'll be much much gap filling and adornment using No More Nails and Greenstuff, fitting of the doors/windows/stairs, painting and then flocking, etc.

First up the simpler WotR version:

And onto the later version which will be winterised for use with my Scavenge Skirmish Survive post apoc game and as a stand-in for Castle Black Game of Thrones type games.

The two castles are on different bases as they will go onto the table top in different ways.

The later winterised version is on square tiles and will form one end of this board, which is to become three tiles wide, though I'll also be making a lot more generic winter tiles (trees, mountain ridge, etc) for GoT type use.

The earlier summer version with the shaped bases will become part of this board, sitting at one end.

Looking good Steve. Love the floorboards. Damn historical accuracy. Put the half timbered additions on the medieval version too! So much more picturesque  :D

 lol

But Richard, did you not note my GoT alternative for the modern variant?  ;)   I'll be repurposing some of my old FIW terrain and winterising it. Remember the mountain made of coins?  That'll get a snowfall (and to think I nearly sold it!) plus a bunch of evergreen trees and other stuff. Do you not fancy winterising some of your GoT collection?!  :D

Ah James, I'm reckoning about 12 inches of GS per castle.  We shall see!  ;)

My flitting between projects continues and I am back to the castles.

I have 'plastered' all the interior walls and gap-filled using a no more nails type of DIY adhesive (in this case the B&Q own brand). I used 1.5 tubes for all six pieces.

There's the odd bit of GS etc which was spare from sculpting jobs but otherwise the NMN is used to texture and bind.

After this has cured lumps etc will be shaved off then it will get a gentle rub down with sand paper. Then a bit more tidying and detailing will be required including foliage to hide joins.

A very messy job, the NMN was either smoothed on with a gloved finger or I used a coffee stirrer as a spatula.

The later version of the castle will be snowed-in so I left some of the gaps as they'll be getting a good accumulation of wind blown snow.

A look inside one of the towers showing the gap filling between the construction segments.

Cheers guys.  :D

No progress for a little bit as I have lost my work area to domestic redecoration!  Hope to do some more detailing soon.
