As far as I remember, there's uncertainty on whether she was depicted this way to emphasize her gender, or if she actually 'dressed' that way,

As for army size, 15 or so a side is normal. Fewer for more elite forces, more for natives and poorly trained factions.

Oooh yes "Angélique, marquise des anges" ! My great-grandmother loved the books.

The films were... um... a bit... old fashioned, but still with some good old adventure feeling.
