Tough call but a good call I can respect.  Sad to see what seemed to be happening last few days playing out this way - and hoping for a Dues Ex Machina to happen but not expecting it - since it started out strong.

If it does succeed I will rejoice and if it doesn't then I will wait to see what your contingency plans are...

Folks, I am not going to sugar-coat this--we've lost momentum.  If things don't improve dramatically in the next few days, we may have to look at some contingency plans.

You are over 50% funded. I'd be concerned if you were at 30% or so but you have to remember that a lot of projects get a huge upswing in funding in the last 48hrs.

On a personal note, the USPS is not doing you any favours for this project. I know you can't (and shouldn't) do anything about that but the project borders on unfeasible for me in Canada due to shipping costs. Even just doing a PDF copy and some dice isn't really feasible due to the additional shipping.

Yes the USPS is not quite on the same par as the Royal Mail it seems but one wonders how much of this is just reality based market decisions.  I am very frustrated with this aspect (corrected the "asspect" spelling but only because I know my personal grammar Nazi will spot it and call me on it) but it seems to be just a fact of life to deal with.

Que será, será...

Glenn

That would be good but it is something you can't plan on happening, unfortunately.  It would be prudent to make contingency plans that you hope you don't need...

I don't disagree with Pixelgeek. I'm a huge fan of the game but I had to think pretty hard before I put in my pledge. The outside-the-US shipping fee is really tough to swallow. I'm still hopeful that you'll hit your funding. Even if you don't, I'll still be buying a copy of the new rules at some point!

Thanks, folks!  We'll see what happens in the next few days.

Is there a way to reduce the print costs down to make the goal if we don't get near the 12k? Say we hit 9k for example, perhaps go with a spiral bound B&W with a color cover. Perhaps reduce the Appendix sections to Free PDF downloads to save more page space.

Not trying to be critical, because that sounds a valid way to reduce costs but I really like Appendixes... Appendices... where is my Grammar and Spelling Nazi when needed... but sometimes I wonder what the actual costs to the company producing the products are and how they impact the production of rules/miniatures.

I like Free.   :D  THW supplies free scenarios and I like that as an option.   :)  But it took time ($$) to produce them which is time not spend on supplying more product that  business can sell to fund more production.  I wonder where the line lies from a business sense.

I really like having an appendix in rules.  One of my pet complaints actually so that would be a negative for me personally.  Since I am in for the run currently it is moot perhaps but if I start seeing cost cutting of that nature I am less prone to participate in future efforts.  That may be just be me but I control my money...   ;)  and I try to not move from value conscious to Scrooge McDuck while not (any more) buying stuff I will just sell off at a loss five years later.   lol

Color doesn't impress me in rules unless there is  clear necessity for color but I believe many have come to demand "pretty pictures." That is always a costlier option,  IMO.

Gracias,

Glenn

Cutting down page count is not a huge issue when it comes to costs.  If we cut it in half, that would be one thing, but cutting 32 pages is not going to matter a ton.

I would be reluctant to cut anything from this edition and change the nature of the product and of the project.  We are locked in at our number at this point.  We'll see what happens.

There's been some encouraging movement in the last 24 hours.  Let's hope the trend continues!

I hope that further play videos might convice people who are still on the fence over this. I know for a fact that seeing a game being played ofthen is what gets me to shell out on it.

Still I am glad you are so frank with us Scott, and that you clearly have a realsitic vieuw of things. This forum has more then a few examples of over funded kickstarters going wrong in the end. Mayhaps yours will be a underfunded one going right?

Thanks, YPU!  Only time will tell.  We have another play video in the next update, going off today or tomorrow.

BTW, I love that color pic of Megladon so much, that I purchased the rights to use it from Rich and it's going on the back cover of the book!  He spent something like 20 hours coloring that thing, and I did not have the heart to not use it in its full glory.

The full-color archetype pics he's doing are also amazing, but alas, in the book those will be b&w.

Scott, sometimes I wonder if people should just produce books of artwork (especially color) that didn't make the cut for rules.   :o  just saying...  8)

While I am critical of glossy color filled products (not speaking to your work here) with crappy rules that almost seem like an after thought and push the costs up for the rules,  >:(  I do like the color pictures artists take such time and effort to produce.  There are times when it almost hurts to throw old calendars out that have great artwork but the years don't repeat (though sometimes it seems that way.) A lot of my old LOTR calendars were of that nature in the past.

Now there is a kickstarter - pictures that were edited out for rules production but are a crime not to publish somewhere...

Gracias,

Glenn

Thanks, Glenn!  I've taken to using my old color calendars as holiday wrapping paper.  Once you get the hang of folding the thicker paper stock they're printed on, it's a pretty slick way to reduce, reuse, and recycle!

I knew a guy that would take his favorite calendars and remove the spiral binding to save the artwork, then have a copy place print his next year one for him and spiral the pictures into the new one.....he would often mix artwork also to make his own unique look for his calendars.
