As I would like to paint up an Oni force too as thru are quick to paint but unsure of roughly how many I would require.

An ordinary Oni Warrior comes in at around 52 points, a normal samurai bushi at around 25-35 points and an ashigaru at around 15-20 points. These are all without special skills or exceptional equipment.

So one Oni is very roughly 2 samurai or three Ashigaru.

6 or 7 Should be plenty then.

It is worth pointing out that there are five types of Oni in Daisho: Lord, Magi, Warrior, Shapechanger and Beast.  :D
So you shall be spoiled for choice...

Rules cover the Bakumatsu?

The rules do not have a set time period. If you want medieval, then don't use Teppo. If you want Tokugawa Shogunate, reduce the amount of armour. If you want Bakumatsu just add a few more modern weapons from Daisho's stablemate, In Her Majesty's Name.

Daisho lets you play at three levels;
1. Historical (i.e. Kagemusha), you just ignore all the mystical and extraordinary skills and creatures.
2. Heroic (i.e. 13 Assassins), add in the rules for heroes channelling their Ki to perform extraordinary feats.
3. Legendary (i.e. 47 Ronin), use the full set of magical powers and mythical creatures.

With an open points system you will be able to develop and field pretty much anything you want, you are not stuck with the buntai and creatures published in the book. If this goes the way of IHMN then we and the players shall be devising heaps of extra, free, material over the coming months and years.

Whats the most advanced weaponry they have in Daisho? Does it go as far as revolvers and rifles in terms of gunpowder or is teppo about as far as it goes?

If all goes well and you can support it in the future a Boshin war supplement / additional items/skills download would be awesome.

The Teppo is the most advanced weapon in Daisho.

However, as it is based around the same core rules as In Her Majesty's Name, you can just pop to the IHMN blog and download the IHMN reference sheet - https://inhermajestysname.wordpress.com/additional-material/. This will give you all the 19th century weapons stats you could want.

There again the Japanese Imperial Army and several other 19th century Japanese companies are covered in great detail in the IHMN supplement Sleeping Dragon, Rising Sun - http://northstarfigures.com/prod.php?prod=6175.

We are pleased to announce that Daishō, skirmish wargaming in mythical Japan, is now sitting in North Star Miniatures' warehouse  :D

This means that it is no longer available for pre-order, just for real order.

If you will please excuse me, I am going to pull my shirt up over my face and run around the house squealing like a seven-year-old boy on Christmas morning.

Gonna try to get these Koreans painted over the weekend / early next week. If I do I will grab a game with the misses and let you know how we find it without your guidance (And hopefully without the dice gods blessing her)
