Some of the BIF I ordered had the same problem as older ashigaru and samurai as in it looks like some of the mould has broken away in nooks and crannys.

I believe they use The Mould Maker although I could be wrong.

Nice of you to say it. I can kick myself in my behind for not discovering your Minis earlier! I was sadly told yours are a considerable bit bigger than Perry otherwise I'd be in there ordering like mad!

I also think it's a caster issue. Last Tactica the Perries were talking with Schilling, a brilliant casting service in Germany, and the consensus from Mr. Schilling was that all these issues can be avoided with better material and careful casting processes. I am beyond "not an expert" though
