Road terrain board
« on: October 14, 2014, 08:49:18 AM »
I built myself a terrain board for playing either Machinas, Qwik or Red Sand Brown Sky (all by Two Hour Wargames.)
It started off as a sketch board. Sidewalks are blue foam. How I went about the rest of it here:

Very cool Carmen!  I take it this is not for your 1:64 collection :D  How big is the board?

Nope, this one is for my 54mm collection (1/64 cars have been sold off to loving homes). The board is around 20x25 inches. Each movement zone is roughly 3 inches square. The road is 12 inches wide; sidewalks 3 inches wide. The board will fit four of my large Machinas cars. I could probably squeeze in a fifth if players didn't mind the cars overlapping a bit.

I think the unobtrusive grid lines are really well done, you see the terrain before the grid which is very rare.
Superb.

OOOOOH! that looks good, I like the scatter terrain too!  :-* Nice work defining the play squares, without it being too obvious. It is nice looking natural like that.  8)

The hand hole bugs me a little, could you add a "base plate" of some description to the board and fill the hole with card/smooth with putty? Unless its just a quick board in which case it doesnt matter does it! :D

Cheers
Matt

That's a pre-cut handle in the original sketch board, and the reason I originally chose this board as the foundation; it makes the board easy to carry as well as hang from a wall. I agree it's ugly, but it's functional.

There is no problem then is there!  lol hanging terrain from a wall hanger, a ingenious option Mr Cartoonist.
