Draconid Royal Guard Sculpt
« on: October 20, 2014, 06:42:09 PM »
Hi all,

I finished this one a bit ago, the Draconid Royal Guard for ShadowSea, and just got it ready for casting. It is abut 34mm to the eye, so fairly beefy, and is part of the Rise of the Dracoids Kickstarter. That one was funded and can still be joined from the "Pitch-In" page on the main AntiMatter Games site. http://antimatter-games.com/games/draconids-pledge/

This one was done in a couple of types of polymer clay. One was a soft clay that was used for the main shape and pebbly skin texture. The scutes, head, hands, feet and all armor and the gun were done with FIMO classic, which is much firmer and waxy, making it better for fine detail and edges. The wings had an underlying shape cut out of thin brass sheeting, a critical trick to get the shape right.

The idea behind the gun is that the draconids salvage weapons from human adventurers and learn their operation, then re-fit them to fire using bits of explosive crystals instead of gunpowder.

Good looking sculpt, the quality is top notch.  Not huge on the gun myself, but very nice sculpt.  :)

Really nice sculpt. Reminds me of some of the old Dragonlance artwork.

PRETTY COOL LOOKING Lizard Lad/Lass/Whatever! It is a BEAUTIFUL sculpt & I rather like the musket. Having some form of close combat weapon would be a nice addition...just in case the firearm misses. GREAT WORK!

Any chance there might be a non-winged version? These guys would be great for VSF.

That is beautiful, amazing skills there, Tom Meier levels of finesse!  Brandlin - The wings are attached to the body, there is no armour in between - just the straps at the bottom and over the shoulders.

... ack, no comparisons to Tom Meier please. I'm nowhere that good, but thanks for the compliments.
