If you are on a budget and seek a mat without bells and whistles. i.e. monocolor felt, then consider buying one from your local fabric department store. The Hotz mat I once had had a good color but it was not worth the 40 USD price tag, I could have bought three felt mats locally. There is always the option of spraypainting your mat for added variety, too. I can't speak for any of the fancier mats out there.

I'd advise buying billiard table baize - it's much better than felt. Unfortunately it's a lot more expensive too. Then spray it with rattle cans - mostly yellow - to give it the natural look. This is mine.

 Thanks guys! The better solution might be a big old snooker cloth of felt,but I would really like to have some textures added.
 Might be a good idea to keep them as low as possible like small grains of cork or rubber...
 Another thing would be having a desert sand on one side and green on the other.

Frontline mats are thick, good grip to the table, the image on them is nice, water/spill proof and to me a good investment. I down two, the green and white winter one....they are very eye catching, easy to store. The cost is $100 US and I think about $10 shipping if I recall right...I know they got distributors in Europe. If you are in Europe I can suggest another company the overseas shipping was rough but the price and product quality was the same from my research.

Been looking next at Deep cut Studios (I am a mat hoe) (not really, I just run Bolt Action events so I want more mats for tables and looking for a cheaper price).

Roughly they are about $60 US, but if you order multiple you save on shipping which is huge to me if you are buying more than one at a go. They have several options that can work IMO.

 Really would like to have bot a Desert and a Grassy one...

Talk with Alf from Barrage Miniatures. They are from Spain and have a desert warmat that is wonderful and the grassy one is FANTASTIC.

 So I am spoiled for choice guys! All options are good,the vinyl ones are also interesting as an option but I think they might feel a bit glossy given the Vinyl look...
