28mm tanks in Poundland
« on: 29 December 2014, 08:03:13 PM »
Poundland have some roughly 28mm clip-together tank kits in stock again.

Notionally Abrams or Challenger from a company called Grafix - the box even includes paint!

Not sure what to use them for, but they might be a good basis for conversions.

Nothing Russian? Damn I passed a Poundland yesterday. I don't have much use for either of those tanks, but given the price I'd probably find one (this is coming from the guy who glutted himself buying those 1/48th Russian cars they sold, and well months later I have the perfect use for the things).

There may be others in the range - they also make aircraft varying between a Spitfire(ish) WW2 fighter and a Mig

If they're the same ones I'm thinking of, I got me some of those Spitfires last year. They set me back about €2,50 a piece at Action in the Netherlands and are quite good for what you pay for!

I'll check out a shop again to see if they are also carrying those tanks now. No immediate use yet, but you never know when they'll come in handy. ::)

But tanks at roughly 28mm will be quite huge compared to a Spitfire, so I suppose the boxes will be bigger?
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

As far as I am aware there are only the 2 tanks and they are basic.

The Spitfire is dreadful as a model but useful a wrecked aircraft terrain piece!  There is also a Mustang and a few modern jets.  I bought some for my grandchildren and they enjoyed making and painting them.  There are two sizes of aircraft - small ones about 1/100 scale and larger ones.  The box size determines scale.  The plane on the box art is not always the same as the model inside.  Not ideal for a scale model but great for converting, using as terrain pieces or filling out a background.

I visited the two Poundland stores in Worcester yesterday and could not find either the tanks or the planes. What I did find was more 1/43rd sports cars. These were in the older store and there were Aston Martins and Jaguars.

Yeah all I saw in mine were those sports cars (which they've had in for a good while now oddly). As with the Russian stuff I suppose it varies as to when things are rolled out into shops. Personally I was just going to use one or two of them as wrecks or whatever, and well for the price I could certainly find something to do with them/ :)

Haven't checked locally since I found the first ones.
The tanks (hull) are about 16cm long.
The turrets don't turn.

But could still be a useful basis for something.
