Depends on how accurate you want to be. NYPD officers (uniform patrol) in the seventies did not use many automatics on duty, they were still toting S&W revolvers. Also the NYPD did not go in for shirtsleeve order except in a hot summer, wearing the double breasted wool tunic. Also a lot of the equipment those guys have on their belts is too modern.
They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We will be victorious!!

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

NYPD used revolvers until 1994. So they wouldn't have magazine holders on their belts either. I don't know if they had Tonfas (L shaped batons) back then either.

This is From the movie Serpico. Took place in the 1970's

This was taken in 1976.

Personally, I think the Foundry ones are the best representation of the NYPD patrol officers going. I have both packs, and the detectives and they represent the NYPD well. I've also added a few packs of the TAG SWAT figures to use as ESU and they also match nicely.

Actually, I'm wondering if the Copplestone Gangster Beat Cops would work in a pinch? The uniforms don't look THAT different from 30's to 70's and they're armed with revolvers too. Great figures too from Mr Copplestone.
