Snitchy's Entry Frozen lake
« on: 30 January 2015, 06:36:09 PM »
I have decided to do something well outside my comfort zone.  That includes snow and ice since I do not have any experience modeling either.  That being said I am going to build a ice covered lake with a few extra snowy details.  I have started on some trees and gone to Hobbycraft to pick up some supplies so we shall see where this goes.

A bottle of scotch and two aspirin a day will greatly reduce your awareness of heart disease.

Baby steps.
So far I have built up some of the trees that I envision for this build.  The pines are spun wire and Silesia string off my jig.

The oaks are twisted copper wire that I wrapped up this afternoon.

The lake top has also been roughed up out of a piece of 3mm plexiglass.  Shown here on a black background.

I cannot claim the frozen lake technique That belongs to the master Richard Windrow.

Hope you like.

Snow day today so just like Eric the shed I cannot use my garage/shed as a paint booth.  I had to work on something else for the lake.  I was going to add this close to last but I had to switch my timetable around.  Based off this aerosled from Alaska.

Here is what I came up with this afternoon in Stencil card.

Lots of filling needed plus the engine and the running gear.
Hope you like.

Uh-oh, this looks better than my SkateR - which incidentally was to have a frozen lake base as well!
Only way I'll beat Snitchy would be in a race of the beasties as mine has an auxiliary jet engine  ;D

Very nice work - curious to see how you'll make the running gear.  8) 8) 8)
Reminds me strangely of the Guild Navigator tank in Dune (the film).

Don't count yourself out yet.  I can easily screw this up since I have never even tried snow and ice.  Thanks for the encouragement all.

Not so much problem solving.  Near as I can tell all the aerosleds outside of Finland and Russia are one of a kind home made vehicles so that gives me quite a bit of artistic license.  Unfortunately an afternoon is all that I had.  Looking for work and housework ate up the rest of my time.  Sucks that my last contract ended just as this competition started up. ;)
Take care all and thanks for the kind words.

You've got the lake, trees, and a beautiful aerosled is nearly done. What are you planning to show us on the remaining 55 days of the competition?
