Thanks, Matt!

Here are some new recruits for my minimalist Cult of the Possessed (my favourite project of 2024) - alternative beastmen or the start of a new and allied beastman warband. I started painting these earlier in the year and got them finished off yesterday and today.

First up is a beastman chieftain. He's based on the RGD satyrs, which are great except that they lack genitals (surely the main requirement for a satyr, by Dionysus!). So I consulted some medieval and Renaissance depictions of demons and gave him some emergency surgery. He's very grateful ...

Next up is a shaman:

And then there's an ordinary beastman warrior:

Here are all three new recruits:

And here's a group shot (missing some mutants and darksouls):

Have a great Hogmanay, and happy new year when it comes!

Interesting use for extra heads...!  lol

Thought, as you say, totally in keeping with medieval illustrations and imagination.

These look great!

And a grimmer, ghastlier goblin:

I realise it's ancient history now, but I do love the blood effect on these weapons.

Always love seeing this thread. It seems to me that many here are 25mm, is that what you tend to stick to? You've seen my other thread in which I am currently debating 25mm vs 28mm for my long term D&D size.

Further, I am also in the middle of deciding on bases and tend to agree with your move towards square. Round is more conventionally pleasing to the eye, but something about square just says old school and D&D to me personally, maybe its because when I got into the hobby so many people were using square for both RPGs and wargames. Also, D&D's history of the 1" grid gives square basing some more merit to me. It just seems to work. And frankly it just isn't as common anymore so has appeal once again.

I tend to mix and match quite a bit. The distinction between 25mm and 28mm is blurry to say the least. At the moment, I'm basing most things on 20mm squares if they fit and then just making sure that the figures in a given unit or band look right with each other.

Here's a dragonewt, based on a slightly converted Lancer lizardman, for the Big Rubble skirmish game that I'm running the weekend after next. Horrible pictures, I'm afraid - there's something wrong with my phone camera, I fear!

Rumour has it that you can either have good photos or good painting. Looks like you've got one of 'em!  lol

In all seriousness, your photos are fine. Only one of them was noticeably grainy and even that wasn't too bad.

Thanks, guys!

Here are some trolls and trollkin. The Citadel orc on the right is to be used as a dark troll hunter. The trollkin are just straight Oathmark builds speed painted by using washes over a flat-earth/buff dry brush over a burnt-umber base.
