About 4,000 British and Hessian troops, from a force of about 14,000 troops, were engaged in this battle with about 1,450 to 1,600 American troops, from a force of about 14,500 troops. This battle ended with a British victory, when British and Hessian troops, advancing from their encampment in Eastchester, forced the American troops defending Chatterton's Hill (now Battle Hill), in White Plains, about six miles away, to retreat, northward.

Wonderful eye candy on your site, Malcolm, I,ve just spent an hour , cup of coffee in hand , scrolling thro the photos. I,ve been slowly painting up Foundry figures this year and this has given me inspiration. I did,nt realise that the Yanks carried 2 standards per battalion , what is your source for this and what rules are you using for AWI ? I,ve just e-mailed some chums to log on and enjoy your site.

Rules used for this battle was Black Powder with a few amendments, i like Black Powder myself but only for this period. The Hessians in total had 75 flags, 25 of these were captured,if you go deeper into it you will find that companys within regiments/battalions had a flag that was carried.Gen. Philip von Heister put in writting that he losted three regiments and 15 flags. At Yorktown 18 flags were captured 10 from two regiments of 5 companies each and 8 from Anspach regiments, these only had 4 companies each.American regiments with companies were the same and alot of these were thrown in the River Thames once captured because the British put no value to them, shame really because thats history.

I think Steve regiments are mostly his in the pictures he put two to a regiment, it looks good i must admit.I got two books on the AWI of flags if i got the time i will dig them out and pass on more info, i think it was'nt long before the British after this war that they decided to have a regimental flag that would become traditional.

Thanks for looking around on the website, i do update it every week with lots of pictures and try to keep the hobby alive, so glad i can help and inspire.

Malc  :)

Steve at the club is proberly the best painter i know, never uses inks, spends each night doing 2 hours of painting with expensive brushes, i would use maybe 3 coats on a face, Steve uses 7 coats, he works with a magnifying glass and takes ages painting a regiment, the results are what you see.

Bottom line is that he is a true pro-painter, like you i ask about how he gets certain colours, the answer is he does not know because he forgets, i love his shades of blue they are pretty amazing to pick up and look at, true eye candy, i just stand back like alot of others and go WOW ! and thats the true and best answer i can give. :)
