Penguin car for my 28s (New: The Penguin's Plane/9/27/15)
« on: 21 July 2015, 06:38:03 PM »
At the swap meet this weekend I picked up a kid’s meal toy in the form of The Penguin driving his Penguin car.  While I have no knowledge of this car actually existing, the toy only cost me 50 cents, and it looked like it could be a fun little project.  I had some resin cast upper bodies/drivers that I had been using with my kid’s meal Atlantis the Lost Empire vehicles so I removed the oversized Penguin that came with the toy and replaced him with the Atlantis figure which I gave a new head taken from HeroClix Penguin #024/Cosmic Justice.  From that point on it was just a case of giving the kid’s meal toy and its new driver a new paint job.  I’m pretty happy with the way it came out.  Hope you enjoy it too.  I provide a picture of the original toy and a couple of my makeover.

Very cool, bizarrely I've got this one and the joker car from the same series in my painting queue to do the same to! Great minds think alike  lol
But having seen your last picture, I'm going to have to track down the Catwoman car too

Excellent inspirational work

Regards

Jim
Edit: I went straight onto ebay and managed to snag 2 of those Catwoman cars for £6 including postage. Thanks very much for the inspiration

Jim, I love your repaints.  Glad you enjoyed the kid's meal Penguin car.  I look forward to seeing what you do with the Catwoman car.  Richard

Awesome. Mad but awesome. As Jack Nicholson as Joker said "where does he get those wonderful toys". It not like you can walk into West Coast Customs and buy one. Unless he threatens to break their legs. It's a thought I ponder from time to time. It's even more insane than Danny Devito's giant bath duck mobile.
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass....and I'm all out of bubblegum. No wait I've just found another pack in my back pocket. Mmm tropical fruit bubblicious.

Thanks for the generous comments.  I think it was a great swap meet find at a great price, and the redo worked out really well... The Penguin deserves a crazy ride.  Thanks again.  Richard

Brilliant!

This range would also make good cars for a fairground carousel.
Pretty sure that would work pretty well for Batman gaming, a fairground setting.

Mason, thanks for writing and the very kind word!  I hope you get a chance to bring the fairground carousel to life or maybe bumper cars.  Thanks again.  Richard

Rob, thank you.  I made another kid's meal Batman-related find this Saturday at the swap meet.  It is the Carl's Jr Joker's Car or Jorkermobile from 2000.  It had been handled rather roughly (teeth marks evident) when I got it, but since it was only $1 I couldn't pass it up as it had some very nice detail associated with it.  When I got home I tried to find it on eBay but couldn't find even one of the exact toy I had though I found several that were similar but less nicely appointed.  Anyway, I spent a little time on Saturday cleaning it up with a fine sanding stick and then put a coat of black paint over the car's body.  On Sunday I gave it a new paint job using the colors of the original toy.  All in all it came out pretty nice.  I hope to take some pictures of it next to one of the Heroclix Joker figures and post them here.  Thanks again for writing.  Always good to hear from you.  Richard

Saturday I made my weekly visit to the swap meet, and one of the treasures I found during my adventure was a Carl’s Jr. kid’s meal Jokermobile from 2000.  I have seen versions of kid’s meal Jokermobiles before but never this one.  This one is a little larger and more detailed than the one I have often seen in the past.  Because this one was a bit special and only $1, I bought it despite the fact that it had been roughed up quite a bit.  When I got it home I began cleaning up the dents in the plastic (probably tooth marks) with a fine sanding stick.  I never got all the bad spots out because it would have taken away too much car but I got it good enough that it was worth painting.  On Saturday I painted the body black and cleaned up the face and the two playing cards on the front.  This Sunday (before going to the swap meet again) I began applying the first coat of paint.  I kept the color scheme of the original toy.  All in all, I’m pretty happy with the way it came out.  I was going to include a picture of the original toy taken off eBay but I couldn’t find one so what you see here is my finished work.  The figures standing beside the car are a Heroclix Joker figure (the paint on the Heroclix figure is original) and a Horrorclix figure modified to be part of the Joker’s crew of henchmen.

Lovely smooth brushwork.
 :-* :-*

With a little modification that could see use as a sci-fi vehicle.
Shame that they don't seem to be about much.

Now that, sir, is the mutts nutts!

Looks perfect in scale and style for heroclix, and a fantastic idea to repurpose the horrorclix figure as a joker henchman.

Yet another of your ideas that you can consider stolen  lol

Shame that we don't have Carl jrs in the UK, chances of getting my hands on one are zero sadly.

Regards

Jim
