That has been AGES...but me and my mate are getting back into Frostgrave. So time to add some more stuff. The Captains inspired me to do a Captain in style and I also had an old Heartbreaker mini which I really wanted to paint...

Necromancer Captain

One of the old awesome Rackham undead skeletons. Way over the top and silly, but I just love his pose and helmet. It oozes oldskool character and I think he is perfect as a Captain.
I painted him real fast, I think the main painting was done during one episode of The Walking Dead. I basecoated all the parts, then washed the crap out of him. Gloss varnished and matt varnished and then took the pigments and weathering liquids to make him old, gnarly and add character and contrast. Finally a snowy base and done!

Infantryman

I used to own this model about twenty years ago and I also painted him back in the day. But then after some years I stripped a lot of my stuff (I'm still sad I did that...cherish your old paintjobs!). But I bought him again here at LAF and saw him as a perfect Infantryman. He was painted in another The Walking Dead episode. First basecoated him with Tin Bitz, washed him and then added very bright highlights to simulate dark metal armour. Added the details and painted the weapon and varnished him. Out come the weathering stuff and boom...he is old and rusty! Also a nice one to do. A simple sculpt but still loads of character.

It's not really rocket science, so quite easy to do actually

The silver:
*Basecoat Citadel Mithril Silver
*Wash with Citadel Badab Black Wash
*Wash with Citadel Devlan Mud
*Polearm: Apply dark shading by stippling on P3 Armor Wash (this is a dark and quite opaque wash)
-Apply gloss and matt varnish-
*Use dry pigments and brush them on with a small dry brush
*I start with old rust, then medium and finally light rust. Sometimes I add some water to make it more easy.
*Fix the pigments
*For the green verdigris I use Modelmates weathering liquid. I simply apply it with a brush and then apply matt varnish.
*Apply some extreme highlights with Vallejo Model Color Metal Medium.

That's it really!

The fire's still strong...so I painted another one, the archer.
Actually, it is a Warmachine Khador Kossite Woodsman. I wanted him to fit in with my Khador, so that determined by colour scheme. But I think he fits in well with the rest. And a Cossack seemed like a right choice for a Vampire to me!
Painting was straight forward. Once again I first applied all basecoats, then applied all shading and finally all highlights. I have the idea this speeds it all up and once you get past stage 1 the fun really starts

And another update...the final two members of my warband!

Tunnel Fighter
As soon as I read hte Breeding Pits I knew I wanted a Tunnel Fighter, just love the idea. When I was scrounging through my miniatures I found the old Wyrd Malifaux Resurrectionists Grave Spirit and I thought he would be perfect as a tunnel fighter. A strange old spirit coming from the rocks with a miners helm and a big mallet. I only added the right arm so he had two hand weapons. Easy conversion.
For painting I painted him green to make him like a spirit (also matching the colours I have for Malifaux), the rest was easily done.



Warhound
I used a silly warhound, but I wanted something that fit a Necromancer a lot better. So once again, Malifaux comes to the rescue! I painted a Canine Remains in about 30 minutes or so. Absurd how fast he went. I basecoated him with P3 Trollblood Highlight (awesome colour) and just glazed him a lot with P3 Coal Black (also awesome), P3 Sanguine Base (once again awesome), some greens and browns until I liked him the way he was. Then I highlighted him with thinned Foundry Moss C and finally with some light grey. His eyes were done with P3 Red Ink and I then added a yellow glow. The mouth was washed with P3 Red Ink, the nails and inside of the ears with black wash, the teeth were painted with bone and finally the nose was painted black with a light highlight of grey. Half an hour's work, so I was quite happy!
After varnishing I added some Tamiya Clear Red blood to him, to zombify him a bit. I also did his mouth as if he just had a great lunch.



And that finishes the initial warband! Here's a picture of the group:



Tomorrow me and my mate will be doing the Dark Alchemy campaign with two warbands and I'm very happy I finished the warband and can play fully painted. Yeah!

Those are just ace! How do you do your bases? I'm getting my own warband based and would like some different methods to try out

Thanks!
1. Base them with sand (fine and course mixed)
2. Paint it with Vallejo Model Colour Chocolate Brown
3. Drybrush it with Vallejo Game Color Leather Brown (Citadel Snakebite Leather)
4. Drybrush it with Foundry Bone B (Citadel Bleached Bone)
5. After varnishing I glue some dried grass tufts to them, from Mininatur (with superglue!)
6. I then add some patches of superglue and dip the model in fine modelling turf
7. I mix Scenery Workshop snow (crushed glass) with Vallejo Still Water and apply this to the bases with an old brush
8. When the snow mix is still wet, I add a layer of pure crushed glass to it for a powdery finish
9. Paint the base rim with Vallejo Model Color Black

Done!
