KICKSTARTER: 28mm Orcs, Undead, Dwarves........CANCELLED

Kickstarter from a new manufacturer with a range of 28mm sized Orc Infantry and wolf riders, Dwarves and Undead.
More of a pre-order "help us get them cast" type project than a ground up new development as all the sculpts seem to be finished and pictured.

Lovely old school vibe about them. $100 core set pledge gets you 37 different minis plus all stretch goals or there are race specific sets or an individual casts 'pick & mix' option.

$20k is a big ask for a new company, but all the figures are there with loads of pictures, would be nice to see some comparisons with other makes at some stage. Great to see "true" proportion Dwarves.

That's pretty unique...unfortunately the scale looks a bit proper 25mm from what I can tell.  I do like a bunch of those sculpts though.  May keep my eye on this one.

Hmmm, guess they just looked small in the photos I was looking at.  I think I'd like to pick up some of those dwarves and possibly some undead.  I quite like his style/design, as long as the minis details are crisp.

I think they look small due to the true proportions the sculptor uses. I plan to use the orcs with my true 25 collection for D&D games. Will be suitably large and imposing.

Aiming to make them in hard plastic and in metal. That seems rather strange to me as minis are generally designed with casting type in mind. Also if a high percent want metal and only a few want plastic then the amount asked for wont be able to cover plastic molds. Should have said one or the other or set up two KS.

When this campaign was shown as a concept I did ask for a lot more detail about the plastic option (as that would be my preference) but they only added the fact that it would be HIPS. Hopefully there will be an update about it.

Bit disappointed that the orcs are the same-old, same-old GW-style green gorilla with bucket jaw and tusks look. The wolves look very good, though. The undead's not bad but I was never really interested in undead.

I'd be most interested in the dwarfs. Well sculpted, well proportioned, and they've got a good LotR/RBGish look about them. Not so interested in the steampunk and gunpowder elements, or the giant shield thingies with holes in the middle, mimicking GW's old models. (Are those based on any real world thing?) With those out of the way I'm left with, somewhat appropriately, seven dwarfs. Basically seven characters for a dungeon crawl or gang skirmish, which is fair enough, but not so great for army building. Even a small dragon rampant unit of all that one peg-legged, toppling-over grenadier? It'd look a bit weird. Any indication that there's more to come after this kickstarter? I guess I'll have to actually read it.

Can't help but think that all these drips and drabs of random 'unit types' scraped together, might be more appealing if they were actual units. More appealing to me, at any rate. TBH I could use a few more dwarfs to add to my couple of Hasslefree minis for a skirmish gang, but then Hasslefree have plenty of options for that anyway...

Latest update is disappointing news, this KS will be closing down. Reasons cited mention the confusion over the plastic figures, wanting more comparison pictures and wanting to redesign the pledge contents.
If it returns, it looks likely that plastic option will be gone.

Shame, but $20k target always looked too high for a small company, first figure range, first KS project.

Not to mention 20K isn't much looking for numerous plastic kits...that wouldn't even cover it given the range presented.  He should keep it simple, sell some metal minis first - set a reasonable goal and run with it.  The product looks good.

Too bad. I liked their take on dwarves. Maybe we'll see a re-tooled version.
