from Brown Sugar to Mad Max
« on: 02 November 2015, 09:07:03 AM »
Years ago Matchbox came out with the Brown Sugar
until now....I had never bought one.
I found one on one of the many "Buy Sell and Trade" Face Book pages for $2.
The first pic shows how this car looks when you buy it brand new.

However when I got mine......
it was covered in thick Blue Paint (encluding the windows),
and there was no engine......
So.... the first thing I did was drill out the rivet......
popped it all apart.... and cleaned off the paint.

I then took the bottom, and cut away the (Matchbox) exhausts.

Then I drew the lines for the doors and engraved them.

Next I cut the windows to fill my needs.

then I drew where I needed to cut away the trunk........sadly.... I forgot to take pic's of this step.

Next.... I turned my attention to where the hood needed to be......
Remember on the Brown Sugar......there isn't one.....
Again I forgot to take pic's of this step....so sad.....
I took a Hot Wheels '73 Falcon..... and mashed the front into some modeling clay.......
after I pealed the clay away..... I poured resin into the clay (like it was a mold)
took the casting.... sanded it to fit in the engine area.... cut a hole to fit my engine casting,
glued the two together, then glued them in place......

at this time I gave it all the base coat of Gloss Black.then set it aside to cure.......

Once the paint cured enough for me to touch I then changed the wheels for my own..........
then I added my exhaust pipes, added 2 resin fuel drums, and some jerry cans......
I painted it all up......

After a short break........
I allowed myself to touch it......
and applied the weathering

The more I looked at it.......
The height of the engine bothered me
so I decided to "pop" the hood off and adjust it.
Doing this allows me to show you what I did to the engine area:

and here is the resin hood I made for it:

and here is how it looks with the engine lowered......
Please compare to the pic's above.

Please tell me what you think.

There\'s a reason why one side of a Claymore  is marked,
\"Front Toward Enemy\".

Great conversion, so much more understated than the original model.

If I can suggest a minor detail, pick out the belt on the supercharger on the from of the engine.  At the moment it looks dusty on top like the rest of the engine, but in reality it would be spinning so wouldn't get dusty.

That was a great conversion.  I really appreciated that you shared the details from the process.  The windows and door improvements were very impressive.

You certainly go all-out, that's a lot of work! Very cool.
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

Thanks for the Tip.......
I had actually thought about that......
but it slipped my mind.

However...... I made another change......
Tell me what you think
