Very cool Objectiv marker addition! I´m not the biggest fan of those bases for the markers. Its a solide solition, but looks a bit wierd imo. I try to solv this problem with magnet couplings in my Vault. But a Boardgame is a totally different environment then a TT Table!

Mm, agreed, the base is a bit big/obvious. But not sure placing magnets in the walls of the ruins for possible objectives is a neat solution either... ???

You'd need too many magnets depending on the rotation/placement of each ruin surely???.. just so that objective is perfectly placed out of sight of all teams.

Perhaps disguise the base a little more? Bevel the base and mound up waste/rubble towards the back edge? What do you guys think?

Cheers
Matt

I rather have it obvious. I would not be the first time I left models or little scenic bits in houses or in bushes just because the bases blended in too wel. I know one of my 20mm Iraqi's is still in Ireland and that game was 7 years ago :D

When in doubt, sprinkle some sand and grit, works just as well if you really want it to be hidden.

If you really want to go that way you have to prepare your terrain smartly for a magnetic usage in Objective markers etc. The main failure in wargaming magnetic applications are, that the people always have the one and only way in their heads to make a magnetic coupling with TWO neodymiums.  That is overkill!
The only magnet has to be AT THE OBJECT!! The surrounding has nothing else to do as BEING MAGNETICAL! That is sooo easy to achive. Everybody here uses the PVA, Sand, Acrylic Paint, filler Mix to make structures on the walls, floors etc. The trick is to add 2-3 Spoons of Ironpowder to the mix. Ironpowder isn`t expensive and you can get it on ebay for a good price. The Result in your final texture will not have any noticeable difference but all surfaces are magnitical useable with neodymiums.
Important hint while doing this! Its absolutly important to mix the Ironpowder in first with the pure Acrylic paint!!!! BEFORE you add the PVA Glue! otherwise the mixutre will NOT cure hard and proper! Thats caused by the chemical issue, that PVA Glue looses its binding properties while the presence of Ironions! To mix it with the Acrylic first coates the Ironparticles with paint and keep the parts chemical seperated as much as possible.

All my casted Vaultparts are made out of Ironpowder filled Resin ;-) I can attach anything on them with just a little Magnet.

Happy Experimenting!

Huh... Very interesting idea, iron filled paint.

The base of the wee heater works for me. Reminds me of domestic mechanical / plumbing features back in Singapore, where just about everything is cast in concrete and tiled.

rather pricey. then again, 1L would last you several lifetimes if you only use it for this purpose.

How about just using magnetic paint, available in every DIY and craft store these days? I picked up a tin of that for painting the bases of my 3mm stuff so they stick to my trays.

Maybe it depends on the used brand of magnetic paint, but I´ve used 3 different brands till today and have not achieved a satified result yet. The magnetic power of this paints is quite weak. The used material in this paints seems to be the same magnetic powder that is used in the 1-2mm thick magnetic foiliages for magnetic stickers etc. My expierences are, that this magnetic powder is much weaker in the magnetic bonding with a neodymium magnet, then the pure Iron in form of thin metalsheet or powder is.

Wow  :o what an idea, I'd never heard or considered that.

Delta, i have a question. What is the oxidizing process for the iron introduced into the terrain? Will your painted surface crack and oxidize over time? Or is the acrylic paint enough to seal it?

I´ve did those magnetic Wallcoverings  since more than 12 years now and have never noticed any oxidation on them since they´ve been finished. The ready dryed Paint is like a little Rubbercoating around the particles and enclose them against any air I guess. I always using latex Wall paint for my Texturemix instead of simple acrylics. The Texturelayer stays more flexible after drying and avoids the cracking of this layer in general. Don´t know if this have an significant positive effect on the Ironoxidation as well.  I have never made a phd work out of my Hobbystuff, just useing my chemical study knowledge to make some little improvements in traditional techniques.

We had a TNT test game tonight, as I will be demoing it at the 2017 Poldercon....it helps if you know the game, right? Well, read for yourself.....

It really is a great game, I'm hankering to start my own campaign in a few weeks.

I did want to point out that there's a hard limit of 4 models from each warband allowed to search after a game, with Leaders and Freelancers disallowed from searching. Should curtail the rapid growth a little.

Yup, 3 of mine and 4 of his. If and when we start playing for real I will take note, thx.  :)
