Hello everyone,

It's about time I opened up a project log of my own. I've had my warbands set up and ready to be painted for quite a while now, but real life got in the way so it took me a little while before I could get to it.

I decided to start with the most fun part, the wizards. First up, my Enchanter and his Apprentice. Anyone have a good name for my Enchanter? I think the Apprentice will be Björn. He looks like a Björn.

I quite liked the original paint scheme so I stuck with it. Expect me to do the same for the majority of the Wizards... and yes, all of them are on their way. Plus a whole lot more.

Thanks for looking. Comments and criticism are all much appreciated.

Where did you get these minis?

I don't know what minis to buy.  After my nephew and I decide on the wizard we want to play, we'd buy two pairs of wizard/apprentices.  But how many soldier packs ($20 or so I believe) do we need?  Would one of those soldier packs be enough.  Are the figurines in the soldier pack for $20 what most of you guys end up painting or do you get other brands?  I need to get going on this, spent a lot of time doing the terrain already :)

The miniatures are by Northstar (http://www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=195&page=1) and you get 20 plastic warriors in the box, but no Wizards. The Wizard and Apprentice are metal and come in a separate blister (Wizard and Apprentice for £6)

I managed to get 2 Warbands worth of soldiers out of just 1 box. They are excellent value for money and have loads of different weapon swaps. 20 miniatures for £20. I'd recommend either buying 2 boxes, or one each of the Warriors and Cultists so that you can mix them up more, and/or use them in scenarios.

For my wizard I used an old Necromunda Wyrd, and my Apprentice I made up out of the soldier box set, basically the thief but with no weapons and a 'bobble hat'.

Hope this helps.

I know the voices aren't real .... but they have such FASCINATING ideas!

A lot if folks (myself included) also use box sets of plastic historical minus from the likes of Gripping Beast, Fireforge and Perry. They usually mix and match pretty well together, and with the official plastics.

Thanks.  Helps a lot.

So did you buy the cultists?  Did you get them for the expansion, or to even use as Soldiers for the first book?  I don't know if I care for the hooded look for general soldiers.  Maybe they'd be good for an expansion I know nothing about yet?

I think I'll get the soldiers and get the box of vikings another guy mentioned from my thread asking about which two wizards to start with.

Thanks again :)

Is there a store that I can buy all three of these boxes from?  To save on shipping?

I initially bought just the Soldier box and as i say, I made up 2 Warbands worth of figures from these (even after I had to replace 4 arms after mistakingly drying them with a Heat Gun rather than a Hair dryer  lol)

I then bought the Cultist box to go with the expansion but I've decided to invest in another box of Soldiers and assemble 40 odd Miniatures for a Demo game of Frostgrave my club is running next month.

I got them all from my local gaming store here in town (which is where we are running the Demo game). Try your local Gaming/Model store or if not, Northstar/Osprey sell everything you need.

Thanks.  Yeah, I'll order them online because my local gaming store doesn't know about Frostgrave for  some odd reason.  I'm in Oklahoma.

In the unlikely event that Annie and Northstar can't provide what you want, eBay and Amazon will provide (I got my Fireforge Mongols off Amazon, and some sprues of plastic Men-at-arms, Vikings and Arabs from eBay.

The sprues in a box set aren't identical are they?  I imagine less desirable spures in the same set are sold off first, leaving you with less choices?  Or maybe they are the same? curios thanks

EDIT: to OP, sorry don't mean hi-jack thread with all my newbness.

The cultists are actually random enemy encounters and are in some of the scenarios in "Thaw of the Lich King."  However, they can also be used to make regular soldiers, which I suspect that most people do.  In addition, there are parts in the cultist set that allow you to make skeletons and zombies.  There are enough heads in each of the kits that you wouldn't have to use the cultist hooded heads.

Regarding the hooded look for general soldiers, I have plans to somewhat theme my warbands.  For instance, my Thaumaturge (cleric) is supported by more martial soldiers, so I have used halberds, crossbows, men-at-arms, knights, Templars, etc.  I figure that he is supported by a religious order, so the troops would be more well equipped than most (and with more torches!).  I think that the Illusionist would be a good choice for perhaps a thieves' guild, and the Illusionist could be a thief, bard, or assassin; in which case I would use less armor and select more Thieves, Archers, Treasure Hunters, Rangers, etc.  I think that the cultist kit would be perfect for Necromancer or Summoner warbands, which I intend to have a more evil look.

No worries, busiest my plog has ever been! :)

Seriously though, isn't sharing what these plogs is all about? You needed information, others came in and shared the information in my absence. Good times were had by all!

Certainly the sprues in the Fireforge Mongols box are identical - I can't comment on the Northstar soldiers as I don't have any!
