Yeah, I was looking at that… maybe not for all of Felstad but certainly for parts of it. It ties it all together with the mix of matching architecture but new additions. I originally overlooked the terrain when I was just focusing on Middle Earth but now, for Felstad I think it works.

On the subject of GW plastic terrain kits, apparently this thing is coming out soon for their LotR range:



Can't help but think that might be suitable for Felstad as well, especially since it will presumably be in the same scale as the rest of that range, which is closer to North Star plastics than the AoS stuff is.  No idea what it'll cost but perhaps it won't be too unreasonable.

I confess I'm surprised as well, but they probably have some minimum amount of effort needed to retain their license and this (and the other stuff on the community page) may reflect that.  It's apparently a modular kit and can be assembled in many ways, and combined with multiple kits - so even better than it looks if it isn't too steep or somehow weirdly out of scale.

Couple of books and a new Witch King kit, both mounted and on foot and with multiple weapon options too - see at link.

Not as generically useful, but impressive.  Sure many Tolkein fans will love it.

I hear the words “Forge World” and I immediately think “more expensive than I want to pay” but I will try to remain optimistic. It is great to see GW supporting MESBG like this. I honestly did not expect much of anything from them unless the Amazon Middle Earth tv series turns out to be a smashing success.

No apparent 'Altar' for devotion to the gods.
No balcony to give the troops an inspiring speech from.

It’s a shame it’s resin actually.  In plastic, it has far more kitbash opportunity.  The stairs alone would be useful elsewhere….

It's Amon Hen, iirc within LOTR it's a unique magical bit of architecture that allows those standing on it to pretty much view the surrounding lands with uncanny  supernatural detail.  Ye olde sattelite imagery if you will.

It's interesting to note that Tolkiens arcane doodads are less about yeeting fireballs and more mundane (if vital) elements of command and control. Wouldn't be surprised if there's a "Wand of logistics" or some such thing.

Yep, Amon Hen translates to something like the "Hill of Sight" or "Hill of the Eye" and the "Seat of Seeing" is at its highest point.  Doesn't seem to work consistently but it is kind of broken by the time we see it in the book.  Frodo got a vision of the world laid out before him like an impossibly detailed sand table, although he was wearing the Ring and that may have interacted with it somehow.  Poor Aragorn just saw the world darkened by impending doom and a vision of a distant eagle, maybe a prophetic thing?

The GW terrain piece probably looks just like the film set piece, but it doesn't match the description in the books very well at all.

Yes, I'm an occasional Tolkein geek.

Well it would have BEEN complete till I crunched the 2nd ed numbers and realised I didnt have enough gold or non-specialist members.

None the less, here's an Apothecary (would also make a good wizard in a pinch), a Ranger, an Infantryman, a man at arms and an archer.

Meh, plenty of meat on an orc.  Mordor's been keeping the larders of Minas Tirith filled with their former soldiers for years.  Faramir and company aren't hunting them just for fun, you know.
