That's his other boot floating in the slop-pot, isn't it?  "For flavor!"  :)

Yup.  I loved that little detail when I spotted it.  It's totally daft, but great.

Meanwhile, here is Elron Hubbard: chaos cult demagogue.  Very much a leading from the rear kind of chap, gesturing his followers forward with an imperious wave of his sword.  The figure is from one of Meridian Miniatures' Black Crab Kickstarters, with a new head and hands/weapons (all GW), and an armoured plate on his arm from the bits box (Anvil, I think).

Perhaps he lost his boot after a narrow escape from the, ah, "active ingredient" in the stew?  I sure wouldn't go fishing to get it back afterward, at least not until a good long boiling took some of the fight out of it.

That's a very effective conversion. Never would have picked the base figure.

That would explain things.

Thanks.  The base figure was a flash of inspiration after seeing someone else converting one of those figures into a 40K preacher.  I had a rifle through my figure box and realised that this one ought to work with the Imperial Guard tank commander (I think) sword I had.  I was pleasantly surprised how well it all came together once I'd found the right bits.

What to do when you want to use some of your favourite Inq28 characters in Stargrave, but the pistol and melee weapon look that is de rigueur in the 41st Millennium kinda sucks in the Stargrave region of space?  Simply bring along your trusty psyber squire bearing a laser carbine/rifle for their master/mistress.  For Stargrave they're really just be tokens to show a Captain/Mate has a carbine, but I figure they can serve some sort of purpose in their own right in an Inq28y game.

The little chap on the right is a Wargames Atlantic halfling (that I got free with Miniature Wargames) with a head and right arm from an Anvil servo-skull, and a random right hand from the bits box.

What a great idea. They look great too: real little characters.

It's taken me a long time, and I've struggled with motivation a few times (plus real life has been getting in the way), but I've finally finished the Blackstone Fortress zoat.  He's got a lot going on, with plenty of detail to pick out, but I'm quite happy with how he turned out.  Next up is the Ambull, let's hope he comes together a bit quicker.

Probably my last figures for the year (next up is a batch of scatter terrain and one or two spaceships) - the Ambull and Borewyrms from Blackstone Fortress.  They'll also serve duty in Necromunda, Stargrave (as a Porigota substitute) and general Inq28 shenanigans when a big bug requires hunting and/or is intent upon complicating what should otherwise have been a simple mission.

After unexpectedly receiving a pair of figures a few days ago, I found my figures in Vs figures painted ratio for the year back to breaking even; whilst this is better than being in the red, I am trying to achieve at least a modest net reduction in the size of my pile of shame opportunity each year.  With not much time left, I needed something that would be quick and simple to paint.  Whilst pondering on what I had that might fit the bill, the crazy attack squirrel that had been terrorising Buckley was in the news; this prompted me to remember the Dire Squirrels I had from Krakon Games' Frills and Fauna Kickstarter a few years ago.  These furry little critters were spot on for a quick and easy extra four figures on the painted side of the ledger (leaving my final tally for the year being 56 in and 60 painted).

They looked quite cute at first, with those fluffy white bellies just asking to be tickled.  Once I painted the eyes and teeth, however, they took on a far more malevolent aspect – just the sort of furry little dickweeds that would gang up on, kill and eat you if given half an opportunity.  I’ll get them statted up for Stargrave to add to my custom random encounter table and they’ll also fit nicely into Inq28/Necromunda.
