Modern War Game Campaign method suggestions please

Hi Chaps,

I was wondering if any of you out there campaign in the modern period? If you do could you be so kind as to provide a few pointers as to how you play out your campaigns?

Are they scenario driven or map based? Turn times and movement rates would be helpful for me to know as well.

I have a few ideas and I will be playing this out solo. I intend to play platoon sized games and would like to use maps to give myself the deception that my forces are actually on the ground somewhere. My main source so far is William Sylvesters Solo Wargaming Guide which gives the three plan guide for forces which I really like.

How you chaps organise your campaigns would be a great help...also how to source a decent cheap map of places like the Congo would be great!

Thanks for sharing any of your tips/ideas in advance. (Now 20 or 28mm!!?)

I use the campaign system (but not the game rules) from the THW rules, FNG.

It's Vietnam based, but would work just as well for any modern patrol type games.
If you're looking for straight combat, tanks, divisional maneuver, etc I am not sure how well it would work for that.

There's also an FNG - Operations unofficial expansion that really takes the campaign system up a few dozen notches.  I can't remember where I got that from though, a Yahoo group maybe?
