MINI ART CON 2009
« on: February 13, 2009, 04:44:19 PM »
On 21st March the third MINI ART CON 2009 will be at the "Rekenforum" in Reken, a small town near Münster in Germany. This is mainly for miniature painter's, but all the top painters will be there and painting standard is overall very high. It's always a warm and friendly atmosphere, a friend of mine will present a Star Wars Pod Racer participation game and I will do a short workshop for weathering techniques. So anybody living not too far away, why not dropping by?

Get out of here... There is no place called Munster. 'The Munsters' is a TV show.

Actually, we have both a city called "Münster" (with an umlaut) and a town named "Munster" (in the Heath) in relative vicinity of each other. It´s always great fun if people ask me (who´s from Münster) how I like the tank museum (which, sadly, is in Munster, near Lüneburg).

Basically, it´s the old "monastery" etymology. In some cities, the cathedrals are called "Münster", in some, "Dom" - which is amusing since we only have a Dom here in Münster, but no Münster, yet a number of monasteries, of which some have recently been demolished to make way for city development projects.

And just for the sake of completeness, we are called "Münsteranians", not "Münsters". Umlauts for the win!

Don't try fooling me with tricksy rationality. 'The Munsters' is a TV show and that's the end of it. Good thing the convention is in Reken; there's no TV show called that.

And look how neatly we got back on topic!

Here we have Minster (from old English Mynster) meaning a monastery church. They obviously have the same Latin root. I didn't realise there was a connection with the name Münster.

It is present in place names too. One of the nearest towns to me is Leominster (pronounced Lemster). There's also Kidderminster (local rivals and football enemies), Axminster (famous for its carpets), and most famously, Westminster, where the Houses of Parliament are.

I'm finding LAF to be very educational today.

Yes Hammers, you're right; it's the TV-Show. Usually the Munsters are in Münster, but this time they choose Reken and invited me into the show, where I will be weathered ...

The next sequel will be produced in Schtockholm, you know, near Schweden. That's more convenient for you then.

Schee you there.

I think what everyone wants to now is what were these monasteries guarding? What did they find? Demons, occult objects, spell tomes? ;)

Hah! You wish. I bet the most exciting thing would be a centuries-old recipe for Pfefferpotthast (which is a tasty kind of stew native to Westfalia). Of course, if you get such a recipe wrong, it will stir up all kinds of digestive demons. lol

Not TV, but Movie: The Reckoning

Back on topic - the MAC is a must see for all those CMON-afficionados out there.
