I really like the way you've recreated the key features from the movie in miniature form by re-imagining everyday objects. Lovely work mate, just lovely.

Cheers everyone, it is going better than I'd hoped for so far.

It really helps seeing so many inspirational projects all in one place - I haven't got Andym's wizardry with plasticard, Silent Invaders skill with green stuff, or JohnnyTodd's mastery of woodcraft, but I hope to pick up a few tips, and improve.

Thanks, they are a bit more fiddily to cut than I thought they would be, already had me cursing a few times tonight.  If I hadn't have stumbled across them my original thought was beads, but the dowel seems to work ok.

I'm sure your going to be tired of me saying this.....but that's brilliant!  :-*

Coming from you, that is praise indeed - i'll let you know if it gets tiresome  ;) :D

I will never look at an IKEA wardrobe the same way again.....
In fact, I think that I will imagine you turning it into a Star Destroyer!

Coming along nicely. Love how you are keeping it as a playable surface too.

Now you mention it, that's not a bad idea....

Thanks mate, as with everything it's a compromise, but like you say by reducing the slope on the space between the hangars and the ( ) it keeps it as gaming space.

Re: AKULA's BS 2017 Entry - Rogue One Scariff Shield Gate pg6 pylons done
« Reply #86 on: 15 January 2017, 04:20:13 PM »
Have got all four pylons sorted now.  The indents aren't quite tidy yet, but this will get sorted once I add the surface detail to the foamboard.

I've also cut away the central part of the cradle now, so I can work on the central ( ) area.

The two large > < are the start of the docking stations for imperial ships, anything from a Vindicator/Immobiliser sized cruiser, all the way up to a pair of Imperial Star Destroyers.... they need more work, grappling arms added, detailing etc....

Re: AKULA's BS 2017 Entry - Rogue One Scariff Shield Gate pg6 the "brackets"
« Reply #87 on: 15 January 2017, 07:07:36 PM »
Now I've cut back the cradle, I can start working upon the central ( ) area

I've got some leftover hoop sections, and will use these to ensure that the vertical part of the ( ) brackets keep their shape.  The basic shape is cut from 3mm foamboard (I've used 5mm for the rest of the build), which I've then scored every half inch to give it more flexibility.

I'm really digging how this is taking shape. Very inventive use of the dowels and other gegaws as well. :)
