Amazing thread.

Can I ask, where did you get the plumes you’re using on your Knights of the Mark please?

Thank you! Some of them are from the gothic heads from Victrix armoured late roman, some are from Gripping Beast's dark age cavalry, and many I have sculpted by first pinning a copper wire into the helm and then covering it with greenstuff. The foot Knights use the afforementioned plastic bits, while my mounted Knights have more sculpted.

The autumnwood is an old and dangerous place. In times of trouble, the Guardians may find themselves assissted by druids, wild men and even the fae spirits of the woods. Some of these spirits make for uncomfortable allies, as they awaken from the slumber with a thirst for blood...

Finally finished this Dungeons & Lasers figure, it had been sat half painted for six months at least on my desk. Ended up using a lot of speed paints as well as pigments from Green Stuff world to give a natural and mottled tree-like appearance. The two hanging corpses got a heavy splattering of the aptly named Murder Scene and some blood red.

That ent looks excellent! The painting techniques you used definitely give a natural feel to the model. I like the basing a lot, too.

The other day I had the idea that I wanted some heavy weapon mercenaries for my Rhudaur Hillmen force (In SAGA terms, Borderers with heavy weapons for when my Rhudaur play using the Pagan People battle board from Age of Crusades). I quickly threw together some more Frostgrave Barbarians but to differentiate them they got a very different paint scheme compared to the Rhudaur themselves. In my mind, they might represent veterans, deserters or even refugees from Angmar following the wars with the northern Kingdom.

Gorgeous work! I do love the frostgrave sculpts, they remind me of the classic Conan stories.

If you've been through this thread you may remember a few dozen pages and a couple of years back I bought the Age of Sigmar Dominion starter with the intent of converting the new figures to use for Oathmark. I painted up most of the Orcs (or Orruks as GW calls them) and put them on square bases, but then stalled out on making enough figures to work with Oathmark. I was missing essential troop types and we were to be honest stalling out of Oathmark as a whole.

Now, for some reason or other, I happened to be browsing GW's webpage a few weeks back. They almost had me hooked with both the Cities of Sigmar and the Darkoath releases, but i had held off. This time, I came back to the Kruleboyz (which is what GW calls the swamp orcs specifically) and was reminded that I do really like their aesthetic. They have this mix of beast hunter, slaver and Warcraft II orc gear that I really enjoy. I failed a will save and bought a whole bunch of them.

I also set about rebasing my square based figures back to GW style round bases. I don't have a particular game system in mind for this project, but I might come away with something that works for SAGA Age of Magic, or One Page Rule's Age of Fantasy.

Anyway, enough rambling. Here are the first two units rebased to original style bases but with a bit more effort put in compared to the first iteration.

What do you think?

Brilliant! Love the figures and the bases (though I prefer squares for my own games) :-*

Plugging away at these orcs. A quick rebase of one the heroes. He had so much sculpted detail on his base that I really just needed to slap some texture paint around it and call it done.

And then some painting. Six crossbow orcs (I am not going to use the GW terminology for the army, it's to stupid). Heavy use of the fresh rust paint from Army Painter's new fanatic line.

I don't think I mentioned in the last post, but the basing on these moves away from the flock blends I have been using for the last year. Instead I make heavy use of products from Green Stuff World's Swamp basing kit and some technical paints. I use two of GSW's mud textures, the swamp and dark mud. This gets a little drybrush with a dead flesh type colour just for some highlights and to tone the shine down just a little bit. Then some Army Painter Fanatic's vomit effect to add some glossy green spots. The larger bases get some GSW moss green pigment and some UV resin puddles. I also use bark for rocks and then a bunch of 3d printed cattail stalks to match the ones that come with the orcs. Then mostly 2mm dark moss tufts from Gamer's Grass.

looking good as usual (although I would add some dark metallic at the edges of the rust, I think. but that is a personal thing)... reminds me that I have quite a few of these sitting in boxes. I always liked their appearance, but don't really know what to do with them as i won't play aos anytime soon.
