Cracking stuff Paul on our fave Space Marines. As you maybe guess I haven’t got much further with mine...
You’ll have to get a hold of the Badab War Forge World books, very good background fluff for the Space Sharks, and others :)

I've just stumbled across this, fantastic project.

I like the conversions a lot, especially the flamer.

I'm looking forward to seeing some paint on them.

Cheers, mate.
I have read all the fluff I could find online and the novels provide great background too.
They certainly have an interesting backstory, which is all part of the allure, I guess.

Thank you, Sir!

The flamer is my favourite too.

Paint is getting slapped on a few of these at the moment, as well as a couple of unmodified Marines.
I should finish the next batch this weekend, fingers crossed.

Well, I finally got the chance to get some more Carkies painted.
Four more chaps done, which now completes the first squad...

The first three are from those recently 'rescued' and I am happy with how they have turned out.
The fourth (heavy bolter) was one that I had already painted in a random colour scheme as a Merc was simply overpainted in Carky colours. I think I got away with it....

This brings the first squad to completion.....

You may also notice that I have added the Carcharadon transfers to them all too.
These look OK when laid on top of the grey armour but seem a little stark on the black pads. I may go back and dull them down a little later, but will wait until I have completed a few more before doing this.

Next up is the first character, a Chaplain.....

Awesome! I really like the subdued grey look (I'm used to bright yellow or orange powerarmour myself :D) and the minis and conversions are excellent (no trace of that overpaint btw ;) ).

I can see what you mean by the white logo being too stark, but nothing a good wash or shading couldn't fix.

You really have me all stoked to pick up some RT project myself!
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

I finished off the 'white' bits on the Chaplain, the first character for the force.

Very nice work! Always a pleasure to see these old models brought back to life with nice paintjobs and clever repairs. :)

As for vehicles: I am probably going to go down the 'proper RT' route and make some scratchbuilt/converted vehicles from model kits and toys...unless an old Land Raider magically appears in my hands somehow!

You could always have a go at making your own Rhinos and Landraider out of plasticard...? They're not very complicated shapes (especially if you make them "closed" and use a shaped piece of insulation as a core to clad in plasticard for the main hull), and lots of people make garage kits of tracks, hatches, and other details that fit the style perfectly.

A fella from a gaming club that I used to be a member of years ago did something similar for Rhinos and I was pretty impressed.
I plan to use a few toys that I have in hand as the basis for vehicles in a 'proper Rogue Trader' style but may well have a crack at making a Land Raider this way as I really would like a classic one but they cost an arm and a leg now.
You have certainly got me thinking.

I'd guess that Land Raiders are the easiest of the old RT vehicles to scratch-build as they have almost no sloped pieces aside from the hull. This avoids any awkward joints or such. The tracks on the original kits are complete bastards to remove mouldlines from too (so much work..! :( ), so in scratch-building your own you can probably still save yourself loads of work overall anyway!  lol

For the Rhinos, if you're thinking of using third-party kits anyway, I did have another idea... Use the hull of a suitable cheap kit (American M113 APC or British FV432 APC would be your best bets IMO), and then scratch build just the sides (which, again, are flat-sided and pretty easy to build). I would say that a 1:48 or 1:54 scale would be most useful to you, although 1:72 are cheaper (bit small though).

...You might also be interested to know that apparently the original Rhino was inspired by the FV432. ;)

Finally, if you fancy having a go at a Predator, I'd suggest some Soviet T54/55 kits, again in 1:48 scale. You probably just want the turret from this, but the tracks could be useful parts for your Land Raider.
