Rechargeable Airbrush
« on: April 15, 2021, 10:05:12 PM »
Hi there. I'm throwing this out to the educated, experienced masses.

Has anyone ever used one of these?

I'm nowhere near a good painter, but would this be a good place to start. I like the fact that theres no big compressor. I'm hoping that makes it quieter. This seems to come in around £30-35. Is it worth it?

Hello Andy,
I expect it’s either a very low psi or runs out pretty quickly,at that price ::)

Not that one, but I did try a similar one at one point.

They aren't that good for paint or most hobby uses. Those are normally ones designed for use with cake decorating rather than painting models or terrain.

Pressure doesn't last very long and is more of a constant need to recharge them to get much done.

Some of the description I've seen mentions each battery has a run time of half an hour, having never used an airbrush, is that then not enough to do much? I'm only planning on using it for 28mm minis or 110mm tall Battletech mechs, nothing bigger.

And does the pressure really make a difference to painting? Is it not just used for light sprays when used on miniatures?

Andy ; if it can do between 15- 20 psi it should be fine, however I think you would find that little tank frustrating and at the price I’m not convinced the pressure would remain stable from full to empty.
I’d lend you an airbrush and compressor to try out,the logistics may prove difficult though ;D

One of the keys to good airbrushing is a consistent, regulated air pressure, hence why most decent compressors have a tank.  I suspect at that price you're not going to get much consistency as it runs down.  It might be fine for priming / varnishing but I doubt you'd be able to do much fine work with it.
