Good battle report - how much effect do the gore piles have on the game?

I really must get round to a game of Sludge.

Like the new additions too

Quite a lot, and after a few games both me and my opponent have realised the importance of tidying up through actions like Steady and Regimental Song, and just plain staying more than 5" away from the piles. In this game my opponent had a powerhouse of a Faith/Nerve test booster in Knights of the Realm and a Chaplain so Gore did not stay very long, but it certainly still has a big impact and needs to be kept in mind.

Great battle report. And like the new Arcanist and painted Marines.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Thanks - from reading the rules it seems a key element - and good to know it does have an important role in the game

So autumn holidays ended a few days ago but I managed to get a few more minis painted during. Have another Sludge game scheduled, so will probably find more inspiration to continue these.

First a mounted commander for Staaren. This is a 3D print from Lost Kingdom miniatures, from their not-Bretonnia range. Originally a banner bearer, but I felt she needed to be something a little cooler, and I did not have a mounted commander on a large base. I envision her as the Duchess next to the original Duke, a true genius at war.

then a Sacred Icon, perhaps the most unique model for the Free People. Again a 3D print, this time from Highland Miniatures. It evokes both the old Bretonnia grail reliquae, and the story of El Cid strapped to his horse one last time. This is perhaps the previous Duke, considered a saint, mummified and carrying some even holier relic in the globe in his hand.

Finally, a look at the lead pile revealed a suitable sorcerer for the Duchy as well. This is a Welsh Druid from the Footsore welsh kickstarter. I had intended to just paint it up for SAGA, but I don't really think the seer or priest mercs are worth their points, so better to make him something that will see the table. Sorcerers are the darkest and wildest of magicians in Sludge, and the model captures that quite well I feel.

What do you think?

Thanks lads! Sludge is quite an obscure game, but I can not recommend it enough, probably my favourite rule set of all the ones I own.

Little bit less hobby mojo since autumn holidays ended, but hoping to finish a couple of cavalry units by Christmas. I have minis and plans for Malakal light dragoons, Staaren heavy pistoliers and Staaren heavy knights.

Another little update, a few more straight up medieval sculpts from Claymore Castings joining the ranks of the Duchy of Staaren. First cavalry unit not counting heroes and bodyguards.

Had the minis out for a game yesterday, and decided to unpack everything for a full force shot. Quite cool all together, no?
