That said there's the core of a decent system in 9th ed, just too much extraneous garbage has crept in.

Too right.  In particular, I would love to know what idiot thought expanding the number of strategems was ever a good idea.  They sucked when they were strategy cards way back in 2nd edition (hands up if you remember those wonderful Virus Outbreaks ending games - how 2020 can you get?) and they've only gotten worse with each later iteration.

I know - scary ain't it. Don't worry, though, it'll just be a phase.

Maybe think about a space marine excommunication made by Captain Blood and Malamute with Napoleonicsin 40mm?  ;)
The figures are great, so I won’t diagnoses Midlifecrisis. Seems more a expansion of range or you are bored by the other stuff.
Bad for me, because I love your moderns.

N@#$%^&*%$s in 40mm?  ;)

If I ever resort to the 'N' word, in any scale, pack me off on a one way trip to Switzerland  ;)

I like them, d'you know I do. Space Marines are a great, classic shape with plenty of influences going into their design and they just work somehow. Your painting is just right for them.

I'm enjoying doing them a lot more than I thought I would. Never been a huge fan of placcy but, I have to say, these are in a different league to most plastic kits.

2nd half of the assault marines - bare heads (I wanted to use the helmets on the Reivers instead of the comedy ones they come with) and a couple of hand and arm swaps to try out the Anvil/Kromech bits. Some of the poses aren't quite right - always the downside of multi-pose minis imo - but generally happy.

Definitely a break from the norm. I have to agree with Paul your style seems to suit these very well.

As for the fortnight long engagement I believe it may be prudent  to check the weather forecast.
As the wind chill factor may result in you still holding a miniature

Guy,
No Otters are harmed.
In polite society ,I believe it's the opportunity to spot a North American/ Canadian, aquatic themed mammal with a side line hydro engineering projects. Whilst holding a single shot weapon and awaiting permission to fire.
