Warlord Games new plastic commandos question

I bought a box some days ago and on the box they are writing about commandos in Europe, Africa and Burma. Obviously the models in this box are not suitable for Burma, but can they be used for Africa or elswhere? If yes, should they be painted in khaki or in sand?

They appear to be armed with Mk 4 rifles and for  use in the Med and North Africa you would want Mk III SMLE. The Vickers K guns would also be inappropriate for the Med. How fussy you are about such detail is up to you.

Battledress was worn in the cooler months in NA and the Med, so standard khaki.

You might just twirl Commandos with No.4s in North Africa. British Paratroops serving there in 1942 certainly carried them, as can be seen in the piccy below. Regarding Vickers 'K' Guns, I always gormed they were first used in the desert. The first ones used being 'liberated' from the Raff by the SAS/LRDG and fitted to their patrol jeeps?

Vickers K guns were certainly mounted on SAS and LRDG vehicles in the desert, but I think the land service variant with the stock and pistol grip was a later development. Warlord do make commandos with them, but they're metal figures. The plastic set has Bren guns.

While this might be a bit dodgy, you could just snip the muzzles from the Mk IVs.  Gives the blunt-end look of the Mk. III.  Not exact, but it might work.  Like Carlos said, depends how fussy you want to be.

I wouldn't get too hung up on colours. It's more important that they're useful to you. So if intend on using them for multiple theatres. Then opt for a halfway house of a light khaki. That'll pass as a dark sand.

Warlord aren't renowned for their research. For example the Vicker K 'LO' has a still of one being used in Theirs is the Glory. Then go on to to ignore the next scene actually sholw the correct firing stance. Demonstrated by the people who fought with them.( also its made in 1946 and is very possible that it's the only type of Vickers K they could get for the movie. As the majority of of Aircraft K's were retro fitted into LO's)
I'm afraid most written reference material related info on who used what where and when is total bollocks.
If I read something I try and find as much period footage as possible.

As for the Vickers k 'land' it was developed for the RAF as a ground defence weapon. They literally turn up where ever the RAF was.
It's more of a mission specific option rather than the basic section weapon.
The Special forces chose the Vickers k for it's rate of fire and reliability in desert conditions. The myth of the Special forces 
Scrambling around to cobbles together equipment. Owes a lot to their choice of mother ship's. The philosophy of using what works best over who makes what looks Heath Robinson at its conception

Just adding to this already good thread, Wargames Foundry has some British commandos for Burma. I reckon the Warlord ones could easily be kitbashed with arms from the 8th Army box or other sources to make good Burma commandos (i.e. long pants, but with sleeves done up).

on a commando note , I’m sure i’ve seen a pic of a warlord plastic commando built as the classic 1/32 airfix “lobbing grenade while holding thompson”. Can anyone point me to it and ideally advise how the left arm was built with the thompson as that doesn’t seem an obvious option! thank you!
