I don’t think they’re that terrible to be honest. Especially not at tabletop distance. You can see what they are. It’s a nice looking unit  :)

Cheers.

I can’t help but think I’d have been better putting the dragon, Clifford on the back…..

Anyway, I can come back to them….I’m trying to get a playable force together first….

The trouble is we think, nay expect, good artwork. The Medieval artists (by that I mean
the ordinary artist, not the rare genius types) were not THAT good. A friend back in the day,
when I last did WotR, painted an accurate Warwick standard, the Bear & Ragged Staff, only
for the rest of us to take the mick. It soon became the 'Gerbil & Twig' flag.
 lol lol lol

Has.been is spot on.

I think people get too wound up over painting "perfect" shield and livery blazons, when in fact these weren't done with computer-aided precision, and were done by hand, by individuals of varying talent and often under poor light and uncomfortable working conditions. They would look slightly mis-matched, not all would be as good as others, and one man's bear is another man's fat hamster.

I personally think hand-painted heraldry looks more authentic than serried ranks of identical, computer-printed transfers; has more soul a more rustic feel.

Nothing wrong with your unit, if anything I'd maybe tidy up the odd line here and there, but not paint over them.
Proudly not painting Wars of The Roses since... ever

Stumbling towards a completed army……

Clifford’s Men at Arms with the odd friend.

Still need a pair of archer units, one of  billmen and a handful of crossbow men.

Hopefully I can then find a local opponent to break them on!

Very nice :)
I like the mix of armour colours.

Hope you find someone to play against. It’s a really good set of rules. Makes for a great game almost every time.)

Thanks.

Ok, just to prove I’m still on this…

One unit of billmen and some skirmishing crossbowmen.

Two units of archers to go, of which one is underway, and the Lancastrians are done kickin in around 170 points.   Hopefully I can get a game or two in with them.

Before painting the Yorkists, I will then paint the couple of medieval buildings I’m sitting on.

Wow! They are all looking rather excellent, what a great project! Mine is a similar story, for which I blame Mr Callan and his rules! Two years ago I had not a single medieval figure now I have two armies! The heraldry is really addictive aspect, just as you think you have completed your collection see another great banner or livery that you just have to have!
I have a bad case of prescient nostalgia. The future's not what it used to be.

Cheers fella.

I would be glad to get the ones I’ve planned finished tbh!   I am half way through Clifford’s archers…then I have one more unit of archers to go with the above billmen.   That will be Andrew Trollope chaps.  I really couldn’t find if his guys had a coloured tunic….so I’m doing them in their own clobber.   I may put the odd archer in a green and white one but otherwise they will be pretty vanilla.   I deliberately popped a knight in the above billmen unit so it reminds me they are veterans.

I have probably overdone the points…having about 170.  I read most people play with about 120….but I haven’t played yet so I’m not too sure!   I have pretty much all the minis now to do the Yorkists.

Oh dear!   Keep taking the pills mate! 🥴

Ok, Clifford’s archers join the fray.

I will get to dragons on their backs at a later (much later) stage once I pluck up enough courage!

Anyone, one more unit to finish the Lancastrians….but I’m beginning to dislike painting archers!

Hi Digits, have been eyeing up some of that printed scenery for a while, but been worried about print lines.
How visible are they? You seem happy with them though. Some close up shots would be great if you get a chance.
