Gyllenbögel's free corps 1808
« on: 24 September 2025, 04:20:45 PM »
Hi,

Another project for the Finnish war of 1808: the Gyllenbögel free corps. This was a roughly brigade sized unit of several battalions of former soldiers, who had surrendered but re-enlisted, volunteers and militia (lantvärn). Im using various figures in civilian clothes, Perry and Brigade Games. The un-uniformed soldiers wore a hat with a white band and yellow yarn attached to it. Thats really the only converting done on these. They will include some uniformed soldiers as well, but the majority will look pretty much like these.
The painting is very simple, just a wash over different shades of grey and brown. Ive done some highlighting on flesh and some lighter colors and the gun metal, but most of the clothes are without highlighting. Ive found that that works quite well with Napoleonic figures, the shading wash is good enough on its own, and skipping the highlights saves a lot of time.
Hope you like 'em.
/P

Great work!

I have these on my todo list as well. I have a soft spot for the irregular units and the plan is to also do the Dalfriskyttekåren who fought in Norway 1808 onwards

How well do the brigade games and perry fits match up size wise?
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

They match up surprisingly well in my opinion, although the real test will be when everything is based together. The Brigade figures are somewhat thinner and perhaps a little bit taller, but for this unit some degree of variation is what I am actually looking for. Some more additions:
