Yet another board (last pictures for now)
« on: April 09, 2010, 05:34:34 PM »
After lugging my old board to a few conventions, I wanted something more lightweight, and with a few more details. So, a week back or so I started on a new one with Grimm and another friend. Here is the result after the first few layers of paint:

The layout is similar to the old board, except that now, there 3 modules 60x125cm each instead of 4 modules of 60x60 cm. I went without the altitude differences, mainly because metal minis tended to topple on the slopes. Also, the boards can be combined in more than one way now.

Basic construction was quite straightforward: insulation foam (the sandy yellow variety this time, not that the colour  matters) covered with PVA, sand, and various organic scatter materials (mainly tobacco crumbs which I collected over the last couple of months). Concrete and street are 1 mm cork sheet. The cracks are simply torn in the material, the parts are then glued down with a slight gap between them.

A few service ducts are inserted into the concrete areas; they can be either used as cover, or as scenario objectives:

Roadside ditch duct beneath the access to road to one of the concrete areas:

And another shot with a bit of scenery:

Monday is my day off, so there are three days ahead of me which I can completely devote to finishing this board 8)

Thanks guys!

I don't know what they do in these secret facilities nowadays, but it must be unhealthy.

I dug out half a bottle of "Noch Modellwasser", and will use it for the trickle, but painting has to be finished first.

Btw can anyone recommend a matte medium, preferably sprayable? Since I glued down sand and stuff with the deodorant-bottle-filled-with-diluted-PVA, every surface is covered with a thin film of PVA and shines like bacon rind in the wrong light. Not too desirable. I was thinking about hairspray, has anyone tried this? Or is there a more obvious thing?

Uti, we did only the boards. All the scenery is from the old table. Still not bad for a week and a half :)

And now for something completely different:

I love my balcony.

How do you store them?

Top of shelf, with lumps of soft foam between them for protection. Though I'm thinking about mounting them on the wall as a triptych :D

More work on the earth surfaces, picked out the larger stones in grey, and did several quick drybrushes on the rest.

A triptych eh?

lol, that would remind me of an artist family (who's name currently escapes me), who supposedly throw a dart at a map and visit that place. They then take a casting of the precise area the dart landed and then paint the casting photo-realistically.

The casting and so on is true, but whether they actually cast the precise area, I don't know. Probably bollocks.

Boyle Family?  ???
