Gear Krieg - Update!
« on: June 06, 2010, 12:51:47 PM »
Okay, so I've got a few Loki and Roundheads winging their way to me and before long I'll be grabbing Agis' Gear Krieg Rules. However, I have a little confession;

I've never painted a Tank before.  :-X In my 5/6 years of wargaming I've just never got round to it, so  I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips for painting tank camo and not just blobbing paint all over the place? What base colours are recommended for Allies/Axis Tanks of the era? Of Course, it is Weird War, so historical accuracy isn't paramount.

Thanks!

Well...
IMO it is best to start simple. Why not a simple one colour scheme?
Most German walkers look very nice in plain old Panzer Grey.
US Walkers would do fine in Olive Drab and British or Soviet walkers will do in any army green.
I found the Flames of War sprays very helpful...

So - apply the basic colour, add some bolt gun metal where it belongs, paint the tracks in a mixture of rust brown and Bolt gun metal. The a very good brown/ black ink. After that some careful drybrushing, some transfers and maybe some Tamiya weathering powder...

Result:

cheers and keep on gaming, Agis - https://www.adpublishing.de

Cheers Guys, I'm back from Uni at the end of the week, so I'll see what I can crack out then.

Derby/Staffs Border for me, so not too far away. Although I'm in Bristol most of the time now.

Thats a really great start- well done!

What I find really makes models pop to life (for me anyway) is the detaling and weathering. The scratches,chips, mud splatters etc that make it look on patrol rather than a parade ground (and less ismore usually too).  That detailing on the feet is a great start.

Good Job!
