Fortunately we're still renting but there will be a point soon when the day comes but I won't mention you 

Unfortunately it probably won't work but I'm still debating that. What I am thinking of is getting proper rails (just the rails and not the sleepers) and laying them on top, fastening them in some way and having it possible for the train to choo choo over 

Someone will have to be at either end to start and to stop it though, this isn't going to be a proper train layout (mores the pity).

For the station I've got two choices, brick or clapboard (the signal box is clapboard) which do you think would be best?

Yep, main building brick, (it will be harder for the Martians to burn it ) I like signal box being clapboard, that will burn nicely.

Done a bit more today and decided to try and set it up to give an idea on how it will look at Salute. I only just manage to get these boards set up in my pokey little modelling room  






The tall thing to the left is the section that will have an iron bridge spanning the canal and I'm undecided as to which route to take for the iron bridge. Either I could go the whole hog and do fancy beams etc or I could just have a simple slab sided version (I might even go somewhere in between   ).

There is also the bare bones of a loco chassis that was from a kit that I bought a whole back, unfortunately the kit is awful so I'm going to build my own for now or think about spending a few pounds and get a proper one... More than a few pounds probably  

Still a way to go but it's getting there

I've got a few ideas in mind but I think it will be a case of waiting till the right one hits me 

The problem with fancy is getting it done in time 

The annoying thing that I've just realised is that one reason I got all the boards out in the first place was so I could measure the span needed over the canal... I've now put them away again without doing this... 

Ah well, I'll just make it up and hope it works

Looking at it closely it would appear that it's got the same stone work sheeting on it 

I was having a think last night and I'm probably going to go with something like the image below but with the addition of either something like the picture you've got Andy or suspension cabling...



Whatever I choose to do it'll have to be done at work which won't be until next week (along with the station) but there's plenty of other stuff to keep me going

Something as robust-looking as that would look superb and fit in really well.
Of course, you may not have the time, but you could cheat and pick up a model railway bridge and convert it...
