Deck house and deck fittings now all fitted except the rails (these will be the last bits I fit). This just leaves me with the tail/rudder section, for which I am still in a dilemma as to the final design.

Hopefully another picture this weekend.

I'm really liking how this build is coming along.

Awesome effort.

Have you thought of look at submarine stern rudders? Funnily enough I was just at a maritime museum looking at one..

hope that helps

Had the same problem with the Blunderbuss. But once I fit the propellers, everything else fell in place.

I'd be thinking either an open structure off the back, or twin rudder/flapss to the side. I know the 'H' is pretty common, but it works well.

If you have to have something different, perhaps fore and aft, with the fore pair of rudders on the down side only? Would want to keep the field of fire open.

Re: Aeronef build project - TAIL SECTION FINALLY STARTED

After a long break. I've finally been inspired to return to this project. To start gently I've painted all the crew figures and deck guns I need. I've also re-worked my original French nef (final painting tomorrow).

My big stumbling point with my new nef was the construction of the tail section. However, I think I've sorted it out and, as I type this, the glue is setting on the first pieces I need. If I'm really lucky I will finish it in time for BLAM.

Buiding an aeronef is on my TODO list, but it's such a big project, so I guess it will remain there for a long time.

Nice work so far. Certainly went crazy with rivets. Love it.

Looking great. Revel make some very nice ship models that work really well for the base of an aeronef (I used the Viking ship).

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Almost finished.

Just a bit of greenstuff filling and some detail on the mast to add, then I'll be ready to start painting.

I can't see in any of the pictures: What is your support under the sponsons? Seems like they wouldn't stand up with just decking as the structure. I would have thought a bit of cylinder extended downwards would do, but even just some structural stuff would work.
