Thou shall not pass!...that immediately played through what passes for my mind when I saw the Black Knight. As always, the metallics turned out GREAT. VERY WELL DONE!

Very nicely done.  Simple color scheme, yet very effective.
So many games, so little time.

Thanks for that guys, he was a cool knight to paint up. I tried painting him up in a black and white scheme, I painted a few highlights of dark grey on the black that did not show up on the picture. I found this guy really cool 'cause you almost always see a knight with a sword and rarely with other weapons.

Hi everyone, Uni has started and I have been swamped. I just finished this unit (only took me over 6 months), I'm a slow painter. They are Grenadier miniatures from thier 'BladeStorm' miniature range (actually a boxed set of wargame rules, perhaps to compete with GW). Actual name for the minis are 'Axe-men of Yolmer'.
They were fun to paint and pretty big, I would say they are heroic 28s.

As always C&C are welcome, thanks for looking

Thanks phreedh, means a lot. What are you working on at the present? I was at your site recently and saw your Heroquest minis; I too painted tons of those ugly orcs. Personally I think the Heroquest zombie sculpt is one of the best fantasy zombies to date.

Trying to complete enough minis to have a team or two ready for the next season of Lead Painters League... Got a baby boy coming any day now, won't have much time to paint for a while so need to sock a few minis away for the LPL.

Yeah, the HQ zombie is great! Never painted any of them. Will "eventually" paint them up to play with the sprog when he's old enough. With my glacial pace, I might be done with them when he's 18 or so.

Wow, congratulations on the son!! When he is old enough you'll take him into your man cave and show him how to paint then you two will wargame together; you must be so excited.

Cheers

I like that unit. It looks nice, has a good quality for any tabletop gaming that comes in mind. I know how hard it is to paint regiments, I more often than not don't finish them. But this one looks really good.

The old paladin... well, nicely painted as well but you can see the tear and wear of his long life. I have a bunch of these old ealry 80's miniatures and have noted the same thing happening to them. The details and hard edges tend to become more and more rounded and in the end a lot of detail is just plain gone. As I said, I like your painting but there is only so much we can do with our old heroes.

Still, bring 'em on, I like looking at your models and your painting style.

I thought I knew all the later Grenadier miniatures but I don't recognise these. I like them, a nice unit, just what we want to see from the advocates of old school.

Top painting too.

Hi Doomhippie, you are right those old lead minis get a little 'soft'. Thanks for the comments, I'm thinking of painting up some Rogue Trader Orks next, those guys have tons of character, I am going to use the old 80's supplement 'Ere we go' as inspiration.

Thats what my girlfriend said, boom boom, thanks I'll be here all week  lol

Hi Erny, I went to your blog yesterday and really enjoyed it. I just played 'Keep on the borderlands' last month with my niece and nephew (thier first intro to DnD) and they loved it. No minis or tiles just thier imagination, they really got into the game.
BTW your orc unit is awesome, I love those old models. What is your recipe for ork skin?

Thanks all

Thanks for looking not much on their yet and I really want to put newly painted stuff on there first before uploading old stuff. If you’re interested I have a few old threads on here with quite a bit of old lead on that I will end up cataloguing on the blog. At some point the number of Old School blogs will hit critical mass, companies won’t be able to ignore the market and the old moulds will start churning out the lead again. Well we can but hope. Perhaps you should consider your won blog, I don’t know too many that look at old Ral Patha and other N.American stuff.

It’s great you get to play DnD with your Niece and Nephew I can’t wait for my 2 year old and 2 month old to be old enough. I have a ten year old Nephew who is obsessed by the Narnia films and spends his time drawing really amazing pictures of knights and dragons. However his Mum doesn’t want him to be a geek so my brother and I are forbidden to talk about such things with him. Boy did I get into trouble for letting him look over my collection. He has enquired with his Mum if he could cycle the 30 odd miles to my house one day…

It’s a real compliment asking for my green recipe, there are much better painters out there so thank you.  I paint Orcs’ flesh with a green base coat of any tone (dark angles green, snot green and goblin green feature heavily). A green ink wash followed by successive layers starting with the base green again then adding progressively more yellow and/or white as the mood takes me. I sometimes go back over the shadows again, perhaps adding a few wrinkles.

Oh and I have some RT era Orks dying to be photographed and put on the blog, including dreads, buggies and bikes though pre-Er we go. Look forward to seeing what you do with your orks.

Erny

Hi Erny, I am going to search for your threads now, I'm sure they'll be full of old lead treasure. It would be cool if companies churned out some of thier old minis, that way we wouldn't have to pay collector's prices on ebay (you listening GW?).

I never thought of starting a blog of my own hmmm, sounds fun, thanks for the idea; I'm going to go and do some research on how to start one.

You should take one of your nephew's drawings (without telling him) and post it on your blog, then show him; I bet he would get a real kick out of that!

Thanks for the ork skin recipe, I'll try it on some of my orks, hope they come out as good as yours.

Do it, do it now! Put some of your Rogue Trader orks up on your blog, I need some real inspiration for my upcoming project, I too have some bikes and a buggy and would love to see some eye candy.

Thanks for the support

Lovely little regiment, I've had some models go soft on me as well, it's always a shame :(
Let me hear the battle cry
Calling on the wind
Let me see the banners fly
Before the storm begins
