Kampfgruppe Normandy from Warhammer
« on: 12 April 2011, 05:55:03 PM »
http://warhammer-historical.com/acatalog/Kampfgruppe_Normandy.html

Its by Warwick Kinrade who does the imperial armour books at forgeworld so the production values should be good.  However a price of £48 :o is not good and has instantly put me off buying it.  Also it is for 20mm and i use the 28mm.

1) LMAO at  the price. Why not going for £100 right away. I can't believe someone would buy a core rulebook for that much. That is sick.

2) Did not GW shut down Warhammer historical? I think I read they canned the people working at warhammer historical and their project. Makes me wonder what kind of support if any this will get.

3) Good luck selling those 20mm miniatures when the market is drowning in 15mm and 28mm rule systems and models to satisfy everything and everyone.

 :o :o

Yeah this strikes me as a very odd time to release this system...FOW really has cornered the market on WWII and I doubt this will change that...and if you look to larger (28mm) figure systems there are already plenty to choose from....I doubt this one will be around for very long...but you never know I guess.

Boy I thought that Rules of Engagement was expensive!

Cheers,

Enough people will buy this book just to have it in the collection of wargame rules.
I am very curious to peek inside. But buying it or even playing it. I dont know... I am very happy with the Disposable Heroes rules we use.

Just discovered the preview pages. Looks good. As I expected it. But can `t convince me. Giving it a try ...why not...maybe some of my wargame mates will buy a copy...I bet someone will  :)

Reading the description on their site made it sound like a mix of the Secrets of the Third Reich rules I play for my 28mm stuff and Flames of War rules. I don't know if this has any potential, I wonder if the rules could be used for 15 or 28mm as well or if they are written in stone for 20mm only in how the game is supposed to be played.

I would love to have a chance to read it through but will I pay £48 for doing so? Don't think so.

From posts elsewhere seems that there will be quite a substantial errata to follow...

It is only made for collectors, i think. Warhammer historical is not a normal company, it is mor like a ship without a captain. A bunch of nerds doing nothing (see WAB).... But this book is a good item for collectors

That's true as I'm a collector myself, but 48pounds will give anyone a pause.

Since you live in Germany and 1/72nd is the scale of choice there for WWII(not mine which is 28) after 15mm then that's likely to happen. ;)

GW are greedy...£48!!!

Was'nt aware of a WW2 set of rules coming out for Warhammer! I would have thought that the 'Over the Top' supplement for 'The Great War' would have been the next release, I hope it is still going to see the light of day, and unlike its title is'nt going to be 'Over the Top' in price....but I won't hold my breath!

The historical side is now part of forgeworld, well at least the name is I think the staff left.  I would assume they will do something similar for over the top is they ever release it

This has been in process for some time, and I think was demo'd at Warhammer World events - WW2 rules at 20mm.

It feels like a vanity publication (high production values, high retail cost) and I expect they have been told they can make it at the quality they need if it doesn't make a loss at the expected numbers of buyers - hence the price. I'm not sure they've set out to gouge on price per se. The problem with this approach is that it doesn't lend itself to rapid replacement (and customer satisfaction) if they fill it with so many errors that it really needs a new edition very quickly - which is what happened with WAB2.
