Have started on the fourth section of the flight pod, which contains a lift to and from the flight deck, allowing the recovery of vipers, and the launch/recovery of raptors.

I haven't booked a table for 2017, so not next year at least.

It is progressing nicely this time though  :)

Now that I've finished my entry for the Build Something Contest, I plan to get back on with my long running BSG project.

Hope to make some more progress on the main ship, plus start building some vipers.....

 :)

First on the todo list are the Viper Mk VII's

Black Sun Model 1/48 models, perfect for my project, and unfortunately very OOP.

As you can see, the fuselage/wings on these is a single piece, so it's a case of cleaning up the add-ons...the worst bit is getting the canopy to fit.

So, you are building a 1/56 scale Battlestar? Ok...  :o

No...because that would be crazy....and it would be about 88 foot in length....yes I did the math.

 ;)

I'm building a much smaller auxiliary vessel.....only about 10/12 foot in length.... Hardly worth mentioning actually.  Plus at least one cargo ship, and maybe a few specials.

 :)

Pfft, only 12ft? I suppose that's impressive

They look great.

Part of me is really happy to see that you are back with this project .....
 :D :D

...whilst another part is living in trepidation of the effect that it may have as I have been (very slowly) squirrelling stuff away for a 1st edition BSG mini-project and you have me looking at my Cylons and thinking of digging out the classic Raider in the loft.
 :o :o

Re: AKULA's Battlestar Galactica Project - REBOOT - corridor test piece
« Reply #147 on: 05 March 2017, 07:36:04 PM »
Have decided I need to up my game, when it comes to the interior of the Odysseus - I want the terrain to feel much more like the Galactica, even though I'm not building a replica (just as well, because it would be 88' long at 1/55 scale).

The main thing about the Galactica in the TV series is the angular nature of the corridors, so I've made a test piece - only 15cm long, but it's really just meant to try out a few of the ideas.

Needless to say, it's a bit more time intensive, than a simple foamboard, pin and glue approach, but I think the effect is well worth the extra effort - it also lends itself to lighting at a later stage.

The colonial marines are Empress US moderns with TAG head swops, and the lady in red is of course, an Andrew Rae sculpt that I originally commissioned, but which is now available from Hasslefree.

I also intend to go back over the flight pod, and add some additional detail, but for now I want to make some meaningful progress on the main vessel.

That looks spot on to me, mate.
 :)

I love the angles, bet they were a bit of a bugger to work out when doing the initial cuts.
 :-* :-*

Making them in smaller sections and modular would also allow you to use them in different configurations too.
