Looks OK so far.

If I were to hunt large mammals (in real life), I think I'd go for broader pits (to ensure the beasts not going around them) - but from a gaming perspective, that one looks great. I don't know the rules in question, but do the mammoths have to actually touch the trap to fall in, or will there be a chance of entrapment, as soon as they are within a certain distance?

Where does one get those TUSK! rules?  :)

The mammoths have to touch the trap, actually they will only do so if they panic, in normal movement or flight they will avoid the trap, so use some fire to make them panic flight into the pits.

Looks good so far, I suppose you could use that and give an impression of a pit through putting foliage over the top with a painted black hole if you see what I mean

...or take a hammer and chisel and carve a big hole in the table. (I have many more good advice like that. :) )

I have been wanting to get the baby mammoths, but apperently they are not available at the moment, I don't know how you got your hands on yours?
[/quote]
i got mine from DAZED MINIATURES  but they were withdrawn from sale in 2009
they may look cute but they have the highest body count of all the mammoths!
nice pit traps by the way ,they look fab and they are not even finished yet. I use resin ones from somewhere that have been in my lead mountain for ages
when we ran the game we played it that pit traps were covered until some thing fell in [wholly rhinos, big cats, mammoths other cavemen tribes!]
its because you don`t got the [PF] panic flight result much, and if you get [F] flight or [W] withdrawn it will just walk round it. Also if a archer is on the right side of a trap and fires a arrow at the mammoth and gets the attack reaction. BINGO!!
which is good when ALL you have left in a tribe is one arrow boy

It will end out something like this:

I will paint the bottom of the pit black.

But this is only proto type, I think I will make the final pits a bit wider and not so square.

Too bad I can't get the baby mammoths, but they do look like the ones coming out on Primaeval Designs at some point. There is some pics on their facebook page. Hopefully I will get them sometime.

Pretty thick poles now I look at it, but I don't really have anything else, I must wait and see what it looks like once it is painted.

I have six such pits in resin - just dug them out - they are only 4x7/7½ cm, though. If they are big enough, I could give them a quick repaint and bring them for the event? Giving you time to focus on other aspects for now.

(I painted them ghastly goblin green with red poles back in the 80's -Yes, intended for use with the first boxed edition of Warhamster.)

Thanks for the offer, but I think I will just carry on with creating homemade pits, at the moment I don't think there is much else I can begin to work on anyway.

I got a bit sidetracked by some rogue trader marines, since I wanted some more than just one pit to basecoat, hehehe....

I will probably create some more pits tonight and paint them tomorrow.

Still pleeeeeeeeeeeeenty of time  lol

I decided to make the pit traps a bit larger and I decided to make six and while I was at it I began a bit more burned earth markers, if it is not enough I will have to do more before next convention.

Materials.

Glue and cardbox added. (Lot of glue).

Todays work.

Tomorrow I will give the sand a thinned down glue wash, to secure the sand, then add the pikes and basecoat the bunch.

Maybe I will have time to paint it too, but if not I will do that in the weekend.

Tomorrow I will give the sand a thinned down glue wash, to secure the sand,

That's exactly how I seal sand on my tables and terrain before painting, too  :)

If you need a hand slapping paint on, I'll be in Esbjerg from Friday evening (at about 18:00).

Now, I'll wait until after Horisont to decide whether to get Mark Copplestone's cavemen, but after reading the rules, I have a strong feeling that this game is fast and fun - perfect for luring some more people away from GW-gaming only.  lol

I'll bring my copy of the rules, too, btw - I'm exited to get to try this out!
