Spooktalker, if I haven't said if before, your painting's gotta be some of my favourite out there. Great style and restraint--something I struggle to achieve. Everything has this jewel-like quality.

But maybe that giant could use some tattoos  ;)

Lovely stuff. That Giant would be perfect for Saltheart Foamfollower from the Thomas Covenant series.

The Frost Giant is a FINELY painted WONDER; when that piece first came out brushwork of this caliber was rarely see. VERY WELL DONE!

It's a classic model. It could just as well have been the latest release from Otherworld Minis, it's more or less timeless. With your paintjob on, even more so! Well done!

This is my all time favourite giant sculpt, who else could have sculpted it but Tom Meier. As phreedh stated it is a timeless piece; a wonderful paint job, it does the sculpt justice.

Cheers,

Thanks everyone and I haven't updated this in awhile! Not to fear, I have a good many more figures to post not even counting the ones not done yet but first I finally got around to doing a tut for how I do the bases using ellipses Ian/Geronimo of Fenris Games cut for me from ply.

Thanks guys!

Next up, lizardmen from the Grenadier AD&D "Solid Gold Line," produced ~1980. You might have caught glimpses of these before on my blog but I never did a proper post about them till now.

This is really timely, too, as by sheer coincidence Mirliton has just brought these figures back into production, news here:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=60350.0

All told four lizardman sculpts were produced for the AD&D range and from these I made the conversions you see in the group above. A sword-armed lizardman was sold in the (2010) Denizens of the Swamp set, an the Axe-armed lizardman was sold in the (104) Lizardmen blister, and a club-armed lizardman was sold in either of the above. The champion is from the (8002) Action Art : Monsters box set. I painted these in 2011 and there are at least two stragglers, still unpainted, that will hopefully round out the group to at least ten t some point in the future.

The spear-armed lizardman is converted from the club variant. The center figure is the axe-armed variant but the axe has been swapped for a club.

The left most figure is stock save the axe came pressed up against the body to meet the demands of one-piece casting, and had to be cut away to straighten it, and the gap detail sculpted back in. The center figure had it's sword replaced with a sturdier falchion. The right figure is stock.

The champion originally had a lance, which was swapped for a sword. The tongue and several front teeth have been resculpted as they were bit oversized in the original casting. You've got to love the Kermit the Frog style leaf fringe around the neck.

Showing the prodigious size of these creatures, fully the 7' specified in the Monster Manual

Lots more commentary, painting rundown, etc on a blog post here:

Absolutely excellent miniatures - I love the Bugbears and the Kobolds/Weasels especially!

Those Otherworld miniatures are gorgeous, but also very expensive ...

I have all the original and AD&D books and adventures; going to haul them out and have a read - maybe Village of Hommlet?

Thank you very much Spooktalker !
I like your post that I have just discovered. :-*
It's a real pleasure to see all those old minis. They remind me of my first roleplaying experience (Ad&D) back in the early 80's...  :o The first experience is always the most striking and a little bit of nostalgia is good sometimes.   ;)
I also like your painting, great job !
Send us some more if you have !  ;D
Thanks again !
