The Garden of Kama - Incoming!
« on: January 26, 2012, 11:33:05 AM »
As one of my projects for 2012 I have started the "Garden of Kama", a sort of fantasy India, Tibet, Burma, Cambodia (and farther east.) The name comes from a book of poems that I saw profiled on the "Golden Age Comic Book Stories" blog.

This illustration, in particular, I rather liked and am taking it as inspiration for this project:

Andrew May is helping out with the sculpting and has been doing some Mara, which are demons. He has also got me hooked on Tibetan sacred art, which has some pretty funky (and gruesome) aspects.

I haven't thought this out in too much detail yet - though things are starting to coalesce...

If the background material & the FINE sculpts by our own ubertalented Andrew are any indication, it looks like you face a VERY interesting project underway. I, for one, will follow your progress with keen interest.

Nice.   Always good to see someone breaking new ground, and those are fine-looking sculpts.

VERY interesting. I'd love to get into some of this kind of gaming – they seem like a natural accompaniament to many things from weird Vietnam to sraight-out fantasy.

Would also love to see Penanggalan (Krasue or Ap in Thai), Naga and Rakshasa further down the line.

Let us know when the Mara are available to buy!

Will have to look up the Penanggalan - don't recognize that.

Yes to Naga and Rakshasa, though you realize that the latter are not really the "tigermen" as portrayed in D&D?

Also: Garuda, and others...

Really exciting stuff! Tibetan/Indian myth is largely overlooked in gaming, and those Mara sculpts look utterly fantastic. Great for the older/weirder Buddhist Japanese deities too. Let us know when they're available.

Stone Circle did a couple for Chinatown a ways back, but you can't get them for love nor money these days.

Most definitely!  :D

Gateshead Gaming should now have several, since I only ever painted one and have just sold off my unpainted lead mountain to them.

It's from Malayan folklore.
