The Demon is looking great and more militia goodness - I might have to try red noses on a few of mine...  8)

Thanks Blackwolf, M.P., Thantsants and DeafNala!   :D

The red nose and cheek thing is obviously something I've seen elsewhere.
I like it because it gives the impression that the mini is either a heavy drinker, cold, or both.  ;D

Sounds like me at the moment, although I can't be drinking heavily enough as I still have the cold...  >:(

Ah yes, and sick. Drunk cold and sick.  lol

Speaking of which: Three more.

It was getting dark out so the details are a little washed out.

Loving the greyish pinkish skin tones on the thug - what's your recipe?

Thanks Thantsants!  :D

I use cheap craft paints generally so I can only describe the colours to you.

For this project I've been using a greyish brown mixed with a gradually lighter flesh tone. I add more flesh as I build up layers. Finally, I do a red wash on the nose and cheeks and maybe a dark blue wash for stubble.

For the thug, I stopped using the flesh tone early on and added white instead as I built up layers which I think gave him a sickly pale look. Also, I added a little red or dark blue to the mix (which I kept off to the sides) while I was building up layers for the "red nose" look and the stubble.

Hope that helps.  :D

When I first started painting minis again, I used to base first, but I found that sand and grit would contaminate the miniatures while I was painting them. Ever since then I have been basing last. I've found that basing after you paint your models is a pain in the ass.

Looking back, I think it was mostly due to an error on my part. Not priming first, not cleaning my work area enough after basing and general sloppiness, so I've decided to base everything first again.

I also tried a different method for adding texture my bases. I brushed on thinned down GLUE, sprinkled on course sand and then immediately submerged in fine sane. I think this gives the bases a more natural appearance and I'm pleased with the results so far.

The lot with bases ready for painting.

A previously unrevealed Harpy miniature.

I'm a clean, base, prime Guy myself...I tend to be less messy with the basing if it doesn't matter. That aside, the Harpy is an OH-SO-COOL piece...GREAT WORK!
