A Hidden Egyptian temple

I was asked to make some sort of lost temple for explorers to find deep in Africa. I decided on an Egyptian outpost, long lost in the upper Nile.



Front is an aquarium model, lightly repainted



Why no, I did not paint the wall paintings by hand.



By golly - a hidden staircase!

Is the last pic, the hidden tomb, in a different room or level?

It's behind the main chamber, and above it. The little hidden doorway in the temple leads (at least in theory) to the bottom of the steps that we then see leading up into the tomb.

In fact, there are only enough steps to give this illusion.

That's the sort of shabby trick that I'd get up to myself 

As models go, it was easier than you'd think. Making two 'boxes' from foamcore for the temple and chamber was the first step. Then I cut out a base and rear support from plywood, and glued the pieces in place. Once those were dry, it was mostly a case of filling in the rest of the space with styrofoam, remembering that one piece had to lift off to show the hidden tomb chamber.  It was 8-10 hours work, total.
