Here's my latest projects-in-progress post, which is bound to prove my signature file correct once again.
In summer my workload decreases to the extent that I can get some model work done on some weekends. I hope, at least, this will be the case this year.
I am making plans for summer for work stuff (sigh), for a spot of writing, and for model work, and I am trying to keep the volumes low and feasible.
In line for model work are:
1) four Warmachine models
2) my 22 remaining Cthulhi of a set of 24 (two had been painted already)*
3) paint a couple of small Senshado forces (1:300 scale) (yes, embarrassing, but I like tanks with unusual colour schemes)
4) complete as many models as possible for my misfit army which I use as a Wood-Elvish sort of force (see, I'm not even pressuring myself to paint the whole army, which consists mainly of odds and ends, bought over several years, which fit easily in no army I own).
5) paint the Brueghel's Rhino model I recently acquired (lovely model, this)
6) complete the Pappis Box challenge - late, at least.
*Anyone have any bright ideas on what to do with 6 large and 18 tiny Cthulhi? Other than play draughts with them?
Today I managed to squeeze in a couple of hours of work. Which project did I pick? None of the above, of course.
I cleaned up some bits of old kitchen units and assembled a small assembly which has a central hollow column for storage, and a surface which can be used for modelling or for gaming on.
Here it is - I actually took pics for once:

It still has to be varnished, and have some holes plugged.
The top surface is the painting/gaming surface - I intend to paint each side in different colours, to have two different surfaces; and to cover it when painting, of course!
The surface which can be seen below the top one is an intermediate level to be used for placing paints, and also for use as an underground surface relative to the top gaming level.
This next pic shows precisely this surface with the supports for the top surface, with a 28mm Eldar model for scale. Both the surfaces and the columns are detachable.

The column is packed with modelling stuff in storage. And I plan to fit wood slats to the sides to create platforms around the column which can be used for a multi-level corridor-type games.
This slight digression from plans can be blamed on Akula's Dune terrain, which although different in concept is what sparked this plan - thanks for the inspiration!
