My Gothic project (EotD setting) - updated 13th July
« on: July 11, 2013, 04:09:08 PM »
Thought I'd post my start into Gothic horror as an incentive to myself to keep the momentum rolling.

Totally inspired by Prof Witcheimer's thread, here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=48449.0 I got the first of my Pardulon buildings and an Armorcast smithy and have finished them (apart from some weathering and last bits of flock... apparently that is in the post as we speak)

1/ The Smithy (interior floor is made from coffee shop stirring sticks, flaura from Silflor)

Looking at the pics now I wish I had taken my time to sculpt the roof apex into tiles.

2/ Pardulon one storey house

Again the camera is very good at pointing out some weathering is needed, especially on the wall areas nearer the ground.

3/ Pardulon two storey house 1

4/Pardulon two storey house 2

Planning to get another one of these for my village as the upper floor can be assembled in a variety of lay-outs.

Terrain board work will hopefully start in August and will pretty much follow the wonderful method of Captain Blood, here http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=12619.0, but measuring my kitchen table will be a four-board layout.

Character-wise I am nearly done with a set of Zendarian troopers from Westwind, along with a certain Professor Abronsius with his assistant Albert. Then I need to work on the Vampire opposition (again Westwind vampires with Cossack  thralls), maybe some werewolves, the vulnerable and superstitious villagers. Oh and my Empire of the Dead kickstarter figures are due in the next few months too.

The Pardulon buildings have also made me start looking into making an inn styled similarly to the ones above, but with a bigger foot-print (floorplan drawn out, just need to decide how best to make the walls, possibly artist matt-board with stirring stick timbers)

More updates to follow, work and real life permitting.

Have fun storming the castle! ...and that really isn't me you know...

Gothic Project: leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=55943.0 - although on pause atm as too much RL stuff getting in the way.

Thanks all - work continues:
1/ Another building, this one from Tabletop World - The cottage

2/ Professor Abronsius and his assistant Albert

3/ The dashing Zendarian contingent:

A group shot:

And finally two bat swarms from Masquerade minis

As always the camera really shows up any errors. They look good enough from arms length so will be fine on the tabletop, still I am seriously considering finally admitting my age and getting an optivisor.

More painting to come when it gets a little less warm (30 celcius here in Worcestershire) the paint is drying almost as fast as I get it out of the dropper bottles.

Stunning work!

Regarding the wheathering of the Pardulon buildings: apply a thin olive green or brown wash around all the wooden parts of the half-timbered parts, and you should be good. I think a bit of green wouldn't hurt the roofs, either. But that's just cosmetics, they are beautiful the way they are!

Also, go for the optivisor. I wouldn't know what to do without mine ;)

@Brummie Thug - choice of colour was sort of aimed at Russia/Hungary/Rumania although these guys obviously favour the Prussian-ish style helmet.....

@Zafarelli - pics posted prior to the Modelmates washes/pigments arriving and I have indeed muddied the wood and moss-greened parts of the roofs. Also put some green around the bases of the walls to age them a little. Quite like the Modelmates stuff as you can dilute them, wash over a whole are then wipe off any raised areas with a damp cloth, or even move the pigment around with dampened cotton wool buds.
I am considering putting some mossy areas on the roofs if I can find the pot of fine flock in the garage.
